I just bought the Pacific Digital 8x8x24x CD-R/CD-RW drive at the post-Thanksgiving sale at Circuit City this morning for $99.99 after rebates.
I was expecting to get the Yamaha 8x8x24x CD-R/CD-RW drive with a 4 megabyte write buffer which Pacific Digital had been putting in these boxes.
When I got the box home and opened it, there was a Samsung SW-408 8x8x32x drive inside with a note that said 'In order to bring you the latest CD-Rewritable drives at value prices we have included a new fast 8x8x32x CD-ReWritable drive. The drive has a new and improved 32x read speed an sports a more efficient 2MB buffer. We know you will appreciate this new high speed drive at the cost of the lower drive speed advertised on the box.'
I notice that the note did not mention the '4MB Buffer Greatly reduces buffer underruns for more reliable recording' advertised on the box.

'more efficient 2 MB buffer'????
Maybe more efficient for making greater profits for Pacific Digital.
