I foolishly didn't check out their abysmal 3.86 Reseller Rating and ordered a Logitech SM130 pocket digital camera from them.

Of note:

When I ordered the camera, it said they had 5 left for $66+ $1.00 shipping. The next day when I looked they were sold out and had raised the price to over $100! (so apparently the closer they get to sold out the higher the price goes)

The camera came in a retail box, but it had been opened. That I didn't really care about, because it was a cheap camera and their price was good. What I did care about is the camera didn't work at all. I charged it for two days, wouldn't even turn on.

I requested an RMA. My original response was "A tech support person will contact you in 3-5 days"?!?
Then, on 4/28 I got an email with an RMA number and promise of a subsequent email with something to paste on the box within "24 hours".

That was 101 hours ago.

So I'm sitting here with the opened, non-functional camera, awaiting instructions on how to return it.

Caveat Emptor. (BUYER BEWARE)

That just means that less than 100% of their products are lemons, which is not very reassuring.

It's most often when you have problem that you find out whether a company offers good service.

Ouch, always do your homework on an online company before buying. Lest you think I'm patronizing you, note that I learned this the hard way as well :(

No offense taken, usually I do. Believe it or not, I didn't think I needed to with these guys because they're big enough to have ads on tv and radio.

LOL- that's what I get for the late night impulse buy. Anyway, take it from me and the 280-odd dissatisfied customers at reseller ratings- Overstock.com is not a company you want to do business with.

you didn't just 'give up'? :p

keep pestering them . . . then raise hell with resellerratings, BBB, Postal Authorities, their state's Attorney General . . . escalate it till it "hurts" [them]. ;)

EDIT: And you can use the Mfg's warranty - right?

My mom bought a CD player/phone/alarm clock on there once. It came with scratches and crap all over it... Needless to say she was pretty ticked. But like the typicaly consumer she did nothing about it.

Technically, I'm in the midst of their RMA process. I'm posting this to save my AT buddies the trouble of dealing with these guys.

I imagine sooner or later they'll make good on their RMA offer, but WTF? I paid for new merchandise, got something that's obviously a return/refurb. Then I dick around with it over the course of two days trying to get it to work, charging the battery, reading the manual, installing the software, Googling the camera, etc..

Insult to injury they're going to have tech support call me? Here's how you turn this camera on- slide it open. What are they going to say?
"Did you slide it open Rollo?"

Moral of the story:
I bought a 3.2 MP Fuji with a 128MB stick off the good ol' AT FS/FT for $70 off a guy with no Heatware to throw in my tacklebox instead. He shipped it quicker, it's about 5X the camera the Logitech is, and I bet if I had problems the return would be easier. I'd trust a stranger with no references before I'd trust "the O" (Overstock.com) again.

LOL- BTW- all this for a cheapie camera to throw in my tackle box.

thank-you for the warning . . . .

i would not deal with them after reading your experience . . . . and their making you wait is INexcusable . . .

i just wanted to make sure that you had "recourse" - and to make sure you post your experience on resellerratings . . . and to go further if necessary.

good luck on the RMA

edit: was this from a Hot Deals thread?

But the hot overstock lady says buy their stuff, and you must comply.

They all are at our age dude. Need one with a good RMA (non marriage) policy that's all.

I bought a CD (audio) from them. It was listed and advertised as a special edition, with bonus tracks. It wasn't. Fought like hell to return the item, but still got stuck with a "restocking" fee. I have since made it one of my life's goals to spread the word about this crappy company, their dishonest sales practices, and awful service.

Be warned...

Overstock has always been shady company. Reflection of the founder.

There was a huge thread at Hot Deals about 2 years ago on Overstock selling fake Tiffany pendants. Overstock was claiming it was real. Of course it was fake.

I would definitely not buy any luxury item from Overstock. Likely fake. My advise is not to buy anything from them. Never have and probably never will.

Good luck on your RMA.

Well I'm convinced never to buy from there ever. Never once thought about going there before, though.

I think it's how companies handle their problems that is the best reflection of how they do business, IMO.

I emailed them last night, gave the impression I was annoyed (I am) and they responded that whatever mechanism they use to generate the returns is out of service, which is why 5 days after the promise of a RMA label within 24 hours I don't have one.

They told me I can ship it back at my cost, which they'll refund with store credit, so I'll do that and see what happens I guess.
