Makes sense that it detonates upon electrical charge but you can get more from a static charge. In the security realm though it is best to not open things from people you don't know or didn't order/ask for. Same goes for idiots on the internet hence keeping AV companies in business.

That screws things up. Now we need a portable X-ray scanner to check the device before plugging it in.

USB-powered of course. ;)

Might as well go the whole way.

Seriously though, I'd double and triple check everything received if I was in the journalism business, if I didn't do that already after this. Can't be too careful.
