This is just crazy!!! I got my new 22" Samsung SyncMaster 1200NF monitor from Onvia.com couple of days ago. Spent around 800 bucks on this baby. I had been pretty excited until I hooked it up and saw those terrible ghost images and shadows to the right of every vertical line or symbol. This made a picture super-blurry. So, I've decided to send it back to Onvia. I emailed them to get an RMA only to find out that they won't accept it back... WHAT?!!! They gave a lame excuse that Samsung and several other manufacturers prohibit them from accepting products back. They said I had to deal with Samsung directly. This is just unbelievable!!! Now I'm stuck with this super-heavy defective monitor. I want my money back! And apparently, Samsung is not going to give it to me...

I'll never ever buy anything from Onvia. This was my first and last purchase from them. :|

If you would have read their policies before you made the purchase, you would have seen an explicit list of the manufacturers that must accept the monitors. Samsung is amongst those vendors.

<< Manufacturers of computer systems, computer notebooks, processor chips, hard drives, and certain networking products prohibit us from accepting returns or offering exchanges. >>

And where does it say about monitors?!!:disgust:

that sucks, first of all you would think they would have to post that on any product that actually falls under that. they should have said or printed clearly on the website under that monitor that they do not allow it to be returned.
I have shopped at onvia and have had no problems with returns including a LG 21 inch monitor but i would be so pissed if they said i couldnt return it and didnt have it posted clearly before i purchased it.
Hell it was defective anyways.

Hmm, that's interesting. I was considering getting a Samsung 1200NF as a second monitor, too.

What video card were you using?

Uhh, Slucky, Ben88 is right. Samsung is listed in the table right below the statement you cut and pasted. It doesn't specifically list monitors in the line you copied, but an examination of the table shows monitors listed. Also, Sasmung doesn't make anything in the line you pasted, except hard drives, which Onvia doesn't sell. Nothing is listed after Samsung, so you put 2 and 2 together a realize they probably mean everything that Samsung makes. I have the feeling you didn't read any of this policy before Onvia told you anyway. If you had any questions, you should ALWAYS contact them and ask before you order.

Also, as to your monitors aren't listed comment. Viewsonic is on the list as well, and as far as I know, they make nothing but monitors.

You maybe right. But they should have specified it explicitly, and not assume that their costomers are detectives... To say the least, their return policy is misleading. I hope they didn't write it this way on purpose.

Sorry to hear this. :(

My personal policy is to not buy monitors via the web, but to deal only with a local retailer and to save the packaging and receipt. This is due to their size and the fact that each unit is somewhat unique performance-wise.

This saved my bacon recently when the switch went bad on one of my KDS's. I bought it from Micro Center in the Midwest, an excellent company in my experience. Although I had in that case discarded the packaging, they gave me an even exchange for a newer model KDS of the same size and used the new box to return the bad monitor to KDS. Took a little over an hour to disconnect the bad one, exchange it and hook up the new one.

While I buy many things of all kinds on the web, I must say that the liberal return policies of most large retailers is an advantage over buying on-line in some cases. I recently got a somewhat unique Sony headset at Best Buy. They gave me my money back when I returned them and said simply "I don't like 'em." :)

It wasn't misleading to me. Before I make any online purchases I consider it my responsibility to read the fine print.

Have you even tried playing around with the controls before declaring it "defective"? Almost always I see monitors looking like human crap on retail channels, with some quick tweaks, they would look totally different.

There is a known "ghosting" problem with Geforce 1&2 cards and certain monitors-escpecially AG models. I had the same problem with my KDS-AV195T and my Geforce DDR-monitor was crystal clear with my TNT2U-then I got the Geforce DDR-blurry city-just like you described. There are some tech articles floating around about this problem. Hers is a link to one:

Like the other dude said, it probably is the video card. Sometimes incompatibilities may lead to unclear images, wrong resolution sizes, ghost images, poor refresh rate, etc. Give samsung a call and try to find out. I bet they have something on their website since geforces are pretty popular.

Onvia.com has pretty much been the BEST company for returns. The problem is no monitor is ever perfect and so many people send back monitors that arent defective(geometry isnt perfect).

Lore: His video card isnt the problem. GotApex said their leadtek card had better 2d than their elsa which means the 2d is probobly decent.

I have never had a probably with Onvia, and I look forward to shopping from them many more times. Next time read the policies before you buy. Also if you know that the monitor is bad, why don't you just call up Samsung?

fwiw - when my iiyama vm pro 450 arrived, it has a silver-dollar-sized hole punched out of the plastic. looked like a poke from a fork-lift. monitor still worked fine.

called my reseller (somebody in pennsylvania), who refered me (800 number) to iiyama north america (located somewhere near san francisco). talked to girl there, who 2-day fed-ex drop-shipped me a new monitor, and gave me a fed-ex shipping number to ship back the defective monitor at my leisure. they paid for all shipping charges. i was impressed with iiyama's sppt & service.

Onvia screwed me over once with a computer case... I'm not ordering there again no matter how tempting the cheap prices and free shipping is on some products.

I think Onvia's return policy USED to be great, where people returned monitors and didn't have to pay any shipping either way. I guess it is changed now.

Don't blame it on the Samsung either as it might not be that the monitor is defective. If it is in fact defective, Samsung has good support and you'll be able to get a replacement.

I have to disagree. Onvia has been the best company for me. I purchased a 95 pound sony monitor from them and it had one bad pixel. They took it back and sent out a new one. All the shipping for both directions were free. Then the second monitor came and it looked like the freight company dropped it and some of the text on the screen was blurry. Onvia took this one right back and sent out the third one. No questions asked! No shipping. Quick credit card credit. They have been very good to me. I highly recommend onvia. It is unfortunate that you didn't read that for samsung monitors you have to deal with samsung. But I'm sure that samsung will take good care of you.

I'm extremely happy with Onvia's service. It is unfortunate that Samsung has weird policies that restrict onvia from returning items. I had recently bought a camera battery from them for about 15 bux, but decided I didn't need it so I asked them to return it. Instead of shipping it back they just credited the battery to my credit card and gave me the battery as a gift. Out of all the companies they definitely are one of the best in terms of returns. I've dealt with much worse.

Uh... dude, Samsung isnt the only one, they have a long list of manufacturers that requires you to return to product directly to them.
