sadly the bars around me are getting taken over by hipster college kids. the drafts have gone from $3 to $7.

Only one place is still damn cheap. Its a rough country bar. but the bear is $1 for a 10 once beer. $1.50 for specialty drafts. they have ping pong, shuffleboard, and like 6 pool tables. I love going in and playing ping pong or the shuffleboard while drinking.

also not uncommon to just get a drink baught for you if talk to people. lots of farmers and such in it.

I'm old.
I remember the days of dollar shots and three dollar pitchers.
Also when TV didnt suck so much.

Anyways......

Right. They're mixing glasses. A 12 oz bottle of beer poured into one of those things is going to be a little sad looking.

Maybe he breaks a lot glassware when he gets drunk.

And maybe you should stick to bashing people in P&N.

That was back in Mayport before the new millennium. Young sailors couldnt afford much and prices were halfway decent.
Things weren't so bad in those days. Oh well, life goes on.

This doesn't exactly scream 'scam' to me, as there are basically two prices for beer at bars/restaurants: good and bad.

Bad is when you have to pay like $6 for a glass of any size. No beer is good enough, or glass large enough, to warrant what some places charge.

Good is when you get a decent amount for a much cheaper price. For me, this is usually 'two for ones' at restaurants. Yeah, it's two little wee glasses, but in the end, it's still like $3 for 20oz of beer or something like that, which is acceptable.

Right up until I got married, one of my best friends and I would go out to the same bar half of the nights of the week. $2 pitchers and 25 cents for pool. I think it was Monday nights when we could get pitchers of vodka gimlets for $5. Plus, free or almost free pizza from the pizza shop - those where the carefree days of living. :)

$7? That's pretty normal for a beer anywhere you go in SoCal.

It's not a scam if it's a well known fact. We're not Europe,we don't use pints. There is no standardized American beer glass.

Except they usually use the metric system in Europe, e.g. .333 or .500 for beer.

Does "pint" have a legal definition in the restaurant industry? If not, it should. That's outright theft if they're advertising it as a pint.
They could push for the bullshit that found its way into the LCD industry:
Want to sell a 23.5" monitor but don't want to call it that because it makes your product sound like junk?

"24-inch class monitor!"

Or the food industry, where 0.5 rounds to 0.

So now bars are under the grocery shrink ray? No big shock there. :p

Try ordering a Guinness next time. It's usually served in "official" glasses that are actually one UK pint. It'll put hair on your chest too.

The conversion from metric causes some of the silliness. Many TVs are 80 centimeters which is 31.5 inches. I wonder if any 32 inch class TVs are really 32 inches.

I have enough crappy glasses in the house.

Probably will put half of em out, and never buy a glass again more or less was my thought.

We had all ready bought a lot of clear Pyrex flat wear, and storage/cooking bowls lately for the kitchen, glasses where the one thing that was lacking.

Not just for beer, pretty much anything.

Those things are durable, but they're cheap, crappy glasses nonetheless. Then again, if they're replacing a cupboard full of plastic Big Gulp cups, probably a significant upgrade.

Shit... why do people drink in bars anyway? I mean you could have bought a bottle of Jack or two by the time you buy a few drinks.

We had 1 dollar pitchers in the enlisted clubs when I was a pup in the USN. Of course smokes were 50 cents a pack and sea store smokes were a dollar a carton.
