I changed my mind on an item and going to order a different one with more features, but Amazon won't let me return it. It's a good thing I didn't open the box, because I'm not quite sure what I would have found inside.

Wow, talk about going from strange to really strange.

I'm trying to return the item because I actually decided on the more expensive unit instead. I've returned items before for this reason and they take it back and I pay shipping. I order a good amount of stuff from Amazon, so they usually don't give me that much flack about it. Besides, it's all automated.

So I called and talked to Amazon India. His system wouldn't allow me to return it, again, marked as hazardous or flammable. He gave me a number to call to a department that was closed.

When I called as the time they were open the recording said bulk items and so I didn't think that would help me out and I did another help/call me from amazon about return. This time the rep was pretty rude (still from India, I think) and basically said I wouldn't getting my refund because it wasn't amazon's fault (correct) and I couldn't return it because it is marked as hazardous (incorrect, IMO, but I guess I could be wrong...).

So I called the bulk number hoping to get someone with some sense. After explaining the situation and a lengthy hold while he checked on it, he came back and said that yes, it couldn't be returned, but I was getting a refund because the item description does not show the item as unreturnable, which is not my fault. He said that I did not have to return the item. I wasn't expecting this and really I was more than happy to return it.

TLDR: Bought Hazardous Router; item description didn't says so; got refund and router; now on terrorist watch list, i'm sure.

Yeah, that's why he gave me the refund. But they still can't take it back because it's marked in their system as hazardous.

The only thing I can think of is that it's sold by Pavilion Health and Home LLC which doesn't sound like a computer component vendor. Perhaps everything the company sells is marked as hazardous.

It's a personal hotspot. Obviously that can overheat and cause fires. Why are you trying to jeopardize the lives of our hard working UPS workers?

Welcome to California. You have to take electronics to special "e-waste" facilities and pay a fee. Sometimes the cities let you do it for free on certain days but not often.
