between this two notebooks, which one is better?

Both have:
AMD Turion? 64 1.8GHz L2 cache 512KB
double-layer DVD+/-R/RW
ATI Radeon® Xpress 200M IGP 128MB DDR (shared)
80GB 4200RPM hard drive

but:
The HP Pavilion Notebook PC (DV5020US):

1gb ram
remote control.
ExpressCard/54 slot

on the other hand
The Compaq Presario Notebook PC (V2565US)

One more usb slot,
firewire,
lightscribe technology,
but only 512mb ram.

I am in college, I will play some games, but 128 shared is enough, my main concern is the difference in ram, but I am really interested in the lightscribe tech of the compaq.. how important is the ExpressCard/54 slot?..

opinions?

Go with the HP. If you need more USB/Firewire you can always get external hubs. IMO the extra memory is more important than being able to print a label directly onto a cd/dvd. I can't say anything about the express card slot, since I haven't seen any information pertaining to transfer speeds of data in card slots.

You're not gonna be playing many new games with the integrated graphics, but if you have to then the HP is the only way to go since it has extra memory.

It comes down to if you want a bigger widescreen (15.4") that's unfortunately heavier or if you want a more portable notebook (14.0" widescreen). Don't worry about the ram. Adding ram yourself is just about the easiest and cheapest upgrade that you can do.

I burn a bunch of cds/dvds, so the lightscribe tech is very appealing, but the media costs more than regular discs... and the bottom line is that the HP has more ram (it would cost be about $145 to upgrade the Compaq to 1gb) and a bigger screen.

last night I had my mind set on the Compaq.. but it really comes down to(for me)
lightscribe vs. 15.4 and 512 more of ram.... so the HP

Thanks for all the help..

ML or MT version of the Turion? Personally, I would pay a bit more and go w/ a MT, better thermal specs, longer battery life.

Edit: Only matters if you're concerned w/ battery life. Well, what do you know, I missed the links to the laptops.... looks like they're both use the ML type cpu.

Last night I got it(I bought the HP), I think it was sort of a "hot deal", after all it is a nice computer for $850

During the afternoon it was available for pick up at 3 CC stores around me, at 6:30 I could only find it in a store 50 miles away... and even there they had two left, one ready for pick up sold less than 30 min before I got there(I called before driving), and the one I took.

The deals on circuit city are on until 2/4 I think, some are web only, but I have been looking for a while, and they seem to have good deals.

HP, all the way. A friend of mine recently bought their DV1000, and she's very happy with it.
