Better to have bluetooth stereo or just buy a cheap mp3 player?

I got a small problem here, for the past 2 and a half year I used my iphone 8 gig as my primary mp3 player and phone. Fast forward to last week, I purchased the Nokia N900 to replace my 1at gen iphone, while finding the phone and internet great, the mp3 player leave a lot to be desired, specially with the headphone quality as well as no control on headset unlike iphone.

I am planning to sell my iphone 8 gig to recover part of the cost so my option would be to get s stereo bluetooth headset or just a dirt cheap mp3 player like sansa clip for like 30 dollar and be done with it. Which is a better option? But of course I can keep using my iphone as mp3 player but that would seems like a waste.

Compared to the N900 the iphone has decent sound quality? The N900 must suck something awful then.

Any dedicated mp3 player, even the sansa clip, will sound better than your N900 it seems. I have an iphone and still carry around a separate mp3 player and don't feel inconvenienced by it. In fact it's better because I can listen to music on the mp3 player but I can still use all the functions of the phone.

You can probably find the sansa e260 or 280 for cheap and those are pretty solid. You can even install custom firmware on them (rockbox) to customize the layout, and the sound quality is unmatched.

I am a big fan of stereo bluetooth headphones... as a work at home person I literally use Motorola s9-hd's 6-12 hours a day, charging one set and using another and listening to a combination of streaming radio and podcasts off a pc with a bluetooth adapter and usb extender cable. The bt adapter is strategically placed so that it works anywhere in the house.

With that said, after using stereo bt that much, I freakin' hate using wired headphones now. I have a Sansa that I use in the car, but rarely use it for headphones because to me it is an inconvenience to keep adding and switching music on a small flash player device.

My vote goes for the stereo bluetooth, even though I am nervous now about too much RF exposure...

However, one thing I forgot to mention is that I'd love to try some more high-end earbuds, the kind that stay in your ears really well. I think that would be well worth the inconvenience of the wire. I try to run it inside my shirt and that seems to help the thing stay out of the way. The large array of heaphones is a definite advantage to any dedicated mp3 player.

It depends. Do you fancy yourself a audiophille? Listen to everything in FLAC? Can you tell the difference between a 192k and 96k mp3? If you answered yes to all of them, neither would work for you, but you would already be here complaing about that, lol. But seriously, if you can answer yes to any of them, go wired w/ a sansa or something. BT stereo sounds kinda muted and washed out. Its nice while excersising and I didnt mind it listening to talk radio, podcasts, or audiobooks, but I didnt like it for music. I bought a Motorola s705 which allowed me to plug in my own headphones, which I liked, but still it was a disappointment compaired to wired headphones.
