Better to get an LCD Monitor or 26" Vizio?

So I'm moving into a single and wanted a TV to watch DVD's and cable TV on. I wanted a TV of at least 22-26" inches. The best TV in my price range was the Vizio 26" which is $464. Coupled with a cheap dvd player, I'm looking at around a $550-$600 tab for this.

$600 is pretty steep and I wanted to stay closer to $400-450. I then thought of getting like an LCD monitor which I could use complementing my laptop and then watching TV/movies on it. However, I was wondering if this was a good choice? I was thinking about a 22" Samsung LCD that goes for around $300. What else would I have to get? An external TV tuner card?

Can someone make recommendations on tv tuner cards and if they're the same quality you'll see on an actual TV?

I'm sorry for my ignorance but any help would be appreciated!

I wouldn't spend $450 on a 26" TV. I've seen 32" TVs for that same price. That's what I'd recommend doing. You can find DVD players for $30, and I've seen a lot of upconverting DVD players for $50 or less.

If you're willing to look around for some deals, you can get a 32" TV and an upconverting DVD player for $500. That's what I would recommend.

Edit: If you do decide to get the 22" computer monitor, it's $230 AR here.
