For a long and long time, English will be the major international language no matter how strong china becomes. Chinese is just freaking too hard to learn(Speaking and writing), not to mention most of the worlds aren't familiar with Chinese characters and cultures.
For non-english speaking people around the world, it is a lot easier to learn English because English is everywhere. Internationally, people watch hollywood movies, listen to english songs, and see alphabets.
Also, English has been an international language for a long time. People learn English in order to communicate with the world. Would someone learn Chinese to communicate with Japanese, French, Indonesian, German...etc? Even Chinese learn English so that they can communicate with the world.

I want to learn chinese so I can move to China and be a professor. Time for a little payback. The thought of a hundered Chinese people looking at me with a "WTF did he say?" expression on their faces puts a smile on my face.
