Better Sound: Turtle Beach Santa Cruz or DFI Onboard?

I have a Santa Cruz soundcard that is probably about 5 years old from my last computer. I just bought a DFI Ultra D motherboard which has integrated sound. I was wondering if it would be better to use the Santa Cruz, or is the integrated sound of the DFI actually better since the santa cruz is that much older. Thanks, Rob

i used the intergrated sound with my last dfi board. I thought it sounded great. I'm not a audiophile though. A lot of people dont like it, but it worked perfect for me.

the integrated stuff on the DFI will sound way better just becuz it's got new technology 'n stuff, prolly has 24-bit sound and 96khz capable and extra sound options like EAX 'n stuff. if you want, they have the audigy 2 ZS for 70 bucks, new full retail. the x-fi is a really nice card as well if you want to spend over a hundred bucks.

I think the sound on my Ultra-D is really bad. I only listen to 2.1 channel music with it, not games, so this is where I'm coming from. The integrated sound on my last mobo, 5 years old, was way better. I just ordered a Chaintech AV710 sound card from ZipZoomFly for $30 delivered. Hopefully after I figure out how to set it up correctly - downloading the right drivers, etc. - I will be much happier.

Hydrogenaudio.org has good threads on setting up this particular sound card. Note that this card may not work right on all games, so research that first if you're a gamer and are thinking of this card. At the least, read the customer reviews on NewEgg.com.

wow...

this reminds me of the integrated ESS sound on motherboard, they boasted pretty decent sound quality for the time, I was jealous of people who had it...
but I guess that point of time has come to past, anyone who has an x-fi or Audigy series card will look no further as far as sound cards go.

it's not a bad thing to be happy for having good sound on your computer, I mean, we only have 5 senses, we might as well extravaganz' for the best visual quality and sound quality, right?
