Better software for tv recording

I have a Radeon AIW and i have two problems with the ATI software.

1) It crashes when i use timeshifting - "KMODE_EXCEPTION ... ks.sys"
2) Often looses audio sync when recording programs

Pretty much i was hoping to find some software that works just like the ATI software but has some type of video/audio sync option. I'm okay with loosing a few frames but it'd be nice if the audio stream would resync.

Other software i've tried was
1) showshifter - would like some sort of interactive program guide to work with it so i could schedule recordings. And i don't like how you can't rewind live tv. It only timeshifts when you pause.
2) avi_io - couldn't get it to work without crashing when i tried to setup channels and viewing tv at all.

I was wondering if anyone had found some sort of virtual dub plugin maybe that allowed you to schedule captures or i haven't tried PowerVCR - i think it's called Power something and it has timeshifting features.

System: 1400mhz amd tbird, msi turbo-r, 512 ram, 2 IBM 45 gigs raided on promise raid controller, AIW Radeon.

I've tried recording in AVI and MPEG2 formats and get the same results with audio sync problems. Have MMC 7.1 and tried 3 latest versions of drivers. And tried a complete clean windows install with latest drivers.

Any software out there i haven't been able to find?

I have found MMC to be the best, have you installed Video Capture Update for DirectX 8.0? It seems to cure capture problems for ATI cards (DX 8.1 already has the update btw)

Also, make sure you have the ATI DVD player installed even if you don't have a DVD drive for proper video capture.

i did have the 8.0a with capture update but i recently went up to dx 8.1. The documentation seemed kind of contradictory whether it had the video capture update within 8.1 but regardless it works the same for me.

What video settings have you been using to get no audio sync problems.. AVI or MPEG and with any particular codec?
