Better setup than remote buffers?

I'm close to adding a third computer at the wife's office.

I've got two there now sharing remote buffers.

I don't really see a problem adding a third machine to the LAN sharing the buffers, but I was wondering if there is a better setup I don't know about.

No, with 3 machines, remote buffers is the best options. Up until you get half a dozen machines or so, a pproxy isn't worth the effort.

I only have 4 machines at home using my pproxy. 😱

They only do about 9Mkeys/sec, but I also have a few machines at work that I have started adding to the effort. Hopefully, when everything is finished, I will have about 30 machines using my pproxy. 😀

There's really not much effort involved in running a pproxy, at least I didn't think so, but I'm not sure how well it would work with something less than NT/W2000.

How do remote buffers work?

I've got a PProxy running for 8 machines on a Win98 box at home. It runs rocks solid (which surprised me considering how flaky windows can be.) I've also got a PProxy running on an NT box at work, but it's only providing keys to itself and another machine.

I say go with the pproxy. THen you will want to do stats, and once you do stats, then you will want to get higher stats, then you........

Once setup, the perproxy is no trouble at all, very little intervention or effort required. Unless you get into stats, then there is more effort involved. I was running remote buffers at work, and switched over to a perproxy on a WIN2KPro PC that isn't being used for anything else, and it's been a hands off operation with little effort involved.

I wish I had used a perproxy a long time ago. 🙂

I'm planning on using it at home once I get the home network changed around. 🙂

Jator has the right idea. He got me off of Remote Buffers and into pProxy. Then came ppstats, which can be a bit of a ah heck to set up on a Win98 machine. Had to download Active Perle and wgnuplot to get it to work, but now I'm hopelessly hooked.

I sold off a Celeron II 566 @ 637MHz (1.78 MKeys/sec) just to get my hands on a 1.2GHz Thunderbird (4.1 MKeys/sec). Now I'm waiting for the dual Thunderbird boards to come out!!!
