Better search function?

Is it possible to have search results displayed by date automatically (default)

and possibly highlight key terms or actual words used for the search?

Thanks!

I never understood why people don't like the forum search feature here. Granted it doesn't sort by date, but IMO that's really rather minor. I play WoW and using their forum's search feature is like a particularly terrifying nightmare, so I guess it makes me appreciate AT's more. Theirs is so bad it's literally unusable; there is no conceivable way to find what you're looking for; even if you use a quoted phrase or an odd word from a post you remember exactly, it will not find it.

Either way, I'm not sure AT could change it, I think only FuseTalk could (I may be completely wrong on that).

99 and 44/100% of us can do that. It's the actual searching that we can't do (advanced search). 🙁

Sure we all can, but it is very stupid to have default search results presented dating back a few months (tried that in the FOR SALE forum) you'll be looking at many already sold items!

about 02/2005.

why on earth isn't that the default setting tho?
Because Jason thinks the relevance way is better and he is the determining factor. So we get to check the box.

Posted by Jason in Feb 2005:
"1) Searching by rank/date combined is an industry standard. Date is not the only factor in determining relevant results, check google, msn, yahoo etc they all take rank and date into account. Our search engine functions no different, it takes the RANK that SQL SERVER gives back on the keyword from the index, and combines that with its insert date to produce a result ordering that takes both into account.

2) The search is not solely designed to be a tool for you to look for your own posts, although that functionality is there. Use the author keyword and combine that with keywords to find your own posts, it works. Use the today page also, those are tools designed to list your posts.

You guys are infact the minority of people that search, so think a bit more about the folks that use this as a resource. There are 4-5 times the amount of people that NEVER post here, and just search for content. Case in point, as i write this there are 714 users logged in, 3000 others are browsing and searching. Ordering by relevance and date is incredibly important to people performing those types of searchs."

Now if he'd just fix the "title or body" part of advanced search. 🙁
Once you check to order by date, that's default until cookies are cleared, I'm pretty sure
