I have 2 pc's, one with better hardware in it and another with almost as good of hardware. PC A has 1gb ddr, evga geforce 6600le 256mb, amd sempron 3000+. PC B has 1gb ddr, pny geforce fx5600 128mb, amd athlonxp 2100+.

PC B seems to run americas army a lot smoother than PC A. Any ideas why im not getting as good of performance out of PC A?

Are you using the same screen resolution and graphics quality settings on both?

If A is rough 1600x1200 while B is smooth at 800x600 it isn't a fair comparison since A is doing 4 times as much work.

A is running on 1024x768 normally, but in americas army I have it at 800x600. On B it is 1280x1024 and it runs americas army in 800x600. As of now it is the only game that I have tested on both (A is a new computer, B is old) that can be graphically intense. I have played enemy territory and counter strike on both and they run smooth as can be on both pc's, but they arent too graphically intense so its not a good test game. But I have also done a restart test to see which one starts up faster (windows xp professional) and B finished before A on that as well.

Others will know better than me, but PC B, with an Athlon, should have more on-CPU cache than PC A with a Sempron. Doesn't Sempron have half the L2 cache of Athlon?

Depending on the type of application then CPU cache can make a huge difference.

The sempron is a newer generation processor than the athlon. The sempron has 512kb L2 and the athlon has 256kb of L2. Also, they are both running on the exact same model motherboard (cant remember it off the top of my head, but I know they are the exact same and are both made by ASUS).

is the sempron a socket 754 or socket A? how much L2 cache does it have? clockspeed? (same for the AXP, pls)

the athlon2100+ could very well give a sempron a run for its money since the athlon has a larger L2 cache
