granted the mobo is an important piece in overclocking, but which chip is a better overclocker

socket 754 3400 in an nF250 board (like the epox)
socket 939 3500 in an nF250 board (like the gigabyte)

?

sorry but for some reason, the search function isnt working for me and i got no hits when searching for - 3400 3500 overclock

the 3500+ is likely to overclock higher and also at a better performance for that it supports dual channel and is excellent at encoding and etc also. i'd put my money on the 3500+

How exactly will the SKT939 overclock higher? Single channel always overclocks higher from my expierence because some ram doesn't work well DC overclocked.

This is true but only if you use RAM that is not built specifically for overclocking in dual channel mode. That in itself is somewhat rare.

What causes poor overclocking in dual channel mode is signal noise. RAM that uses BGA chips is known to heavily reduce this effect and are far more compatible with motherboards. A prime example of this is OCZ EB PC3200,3500, and 3700 RAM.
