Better operating system for gaming.

I'm thinking of nuking my machine and opting for a rebuild. Why?? Just for the hell of it I guess. I've got plenty of resources to spare and I like Win98. But the thought of installing Win95 w/USB support (to free up even more resources) has intriguied me.

Hmmm. Decisions, Decisions.

Oh yeah. I'm also going to load it up with Win NT4.0WS (no NTFS) and Linux Mandrake7.2.

Suggestions?? Tips?? I've never tried three OS's on one machine before.

Thanks

JR..

How bout you ditch that crap called win 9x
And go with straight win2000.
I have not had a problem yet getting ANY device or software to work.

I have a few friends who like mandrake.
I like to stick by FreeBSD. Just used to it and like it better then other builds.

But my best opinion, ditch 9x crap 😉
You will be a much happier man

I agree, Win2K is the best so far.. Although a few people have had some problems in some games so check for compatibility issues before upgrading..

The best OS for games is still probably Win98SE. Despite the fact that many people have no probs with games, other people have had a number of problems. Win2k can especially be a problem with older games. Check out ntcompatible. Also some hardware drivers arent as mature for Win2K, so that even though software may work-it may be slower.
Having said that, Win2k is a damn nice OS, and the odds are that you will not have too many problems.
Could you run a dual boot Win2k/98SE to get the best of both worlds?

Win2K is a brilliant operating system but its still *not quite* there as far as gaming goes in comparison to 98SE.

Just dual boot and get the best of both worlds!

I like WinME for games personally, but W2K is a way better OS as far as everything except games is concerned.
