Interesting read thanks for sharing that link. I especially like the tickless kernel stuff. Really makes sense.

This article perfectly represents the crux of Windows 8. Most of us realize that Windows 8 brings significant improvement under the hood, and would really like to take advantage of them. The Metro (or whatever MS is calling it now) interface is, from what I'm reading, the stumbling block from everyone adopting.

So the question is...if one hates Metro, do the under-the-hood improvements outweigh the dislike of the new UI?

Interesting read, thanks. Now that it's here and the freaking out is dying down (a bit), this kind of info becomes more relevant.

Yes they do...at least for me. I can learn and get used to anything and metro is not that bad at all. It's just new and there's a shock factor for some people. Sometimes the people afraid of changing something, even if in the long run it's better, are the most vocal.

I am using Windows 8 and barely even see the Metro part. Also, don't miss the start menu considering I wasn't really using it anymore.

There's a lot of little improvements I appreciate (such as the file transfer window and the new task manager). I am really happy with the OS so far.

I am too thanks to start8. Though swapping between open applications would be faster for me if Metro apps would close. Doesn't take long to fill up a lengthy list of apps to sift through just to find my few desktop apps open.
If I can get that resolved, i'll be perfectly happy;)
Maybe some 3rd party will come up with a way to layer an X button on the metro apps.

" it should result in a browser that's much harder for bad guys to break into."

Well...sounds like Déjà vu. How may time have you heard that before?

Microprocessor is just that it executes instructions. These security implementations are just superficial like adding one more level of password. Passwords are for access control not for security.

You need security when you want to hide something. Ideally no one should need security in an open world.

You don't have to use "Metro", why make a big deal out of it.

After about a day, I don't even care for the start screen either. People nowadays make a big deal out of everything...."OMGZ no START MENU, OMG METRO"...

Windows 8 is great (even in comparison with Windows 7), NOW STFU!

Please try to refrain from rude, condescending posts. They do nothing productive & only start flame wars. -Admin DrPizza

Win8 is doing well on sales not surprising really :) http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/software/microsoft-ceo-says-4-million-windows-8-upgrades-since-friday/articleshow/17024222.cms .

SEATTLE: Microsoft Corp Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said on Tuesday the company has sold 4 million upgrades to Windows 8, signaling a strong start for its new operating system which launched on Friday.

Ballmer, speaking at a meeting for software developers at Microsoft's headquarters near Seattle, said hundreds of millions of Windows systems would be sold over the next year, and the company was seeing strong interest from business users.

Ballmer already said on Monday that Windows 8 was outselling the previous version, Windows 7, at the same stage after launch three years ago.
