Better motherboard, Shuttle Hot-591P or Soyo 5ehm ????

I'm trading something for a Super 7 motherboard and so far have offers for these 2 motherboards. I need it for an AMD K6-III+ 450 so I need 2.0 Volt core, also I wanted SDRAM slots. Any opinions which might be the better motherboard for this CPU?

😕

I still have my old HOT-591P. It was a good board, not the fastest but ok. It has 2 DIMM and 2 SIMM slots. The old 1/3/3 configuration and has both AT and ATX power adapters. Haven't run into the Soyo board. They are probably both fine.

I have a HOT-591P.
Very stable, but it is very slow compared to other Super7 boards.
Not recomended for o/c'ing.
And with my sound card it makes popping/crackling noises, you'll be better with the Soyo...

Thanks for the info. Not sure if either one of these would be very good now. I have a Brand new unopened MEMOREX 4X2X24 CDRW for trade for a good Motherboard if you know anyone who is interested. Do you have any recommendations on a good board? I'm more interested in stability than overclocking potential.

Thanks 🙁

I don't know anything about the HOT-591P, but I have built around 20 systems with the yoyo 5EHM. It's a decent board but has a few 'issues' you should read about in all the yoyo tech docs. Mainly: 1) be sure to install the 4in1 drivers BEFORE installing hardware drivers (esp AGP and IRQ) 2) Do NOT attempt to use bus mastering, it can make it unstable, DO NOT install the busmaster driver! 3) you must enable USB in bios even if your not going to use it. 4) If you use a high end video card (TNT or Geforce), be sure to add a 300watt (min) PS.

Other than that, it is a good board.

The AOpen Socket 7 boards (ATX) are suposed to be very good...

I agree in NOT installing the busmaster drivers...they stuffed my Seagate hard disks DMA and took around 50 minutes to start windows...
