better midi sounds...

I'm looking to use a cheapo keyboard (it's a midi controller only, no onboard sound capability) w/ computer and speakers to add to my percussion setup for a church Christmas program. I'd like to cover all the mallet instruments on it - xylophone, tubular chimes, bells/glockenspiel. I've got a Hercules Game Theater XP in my computer so I played around with it's midi sounds. None of the built in stuff for these instruments will work - they don't sound real enough by far. Anyone got pointers for how to get some better midi instruments on here?

I know that there are wavetable synthesizers out there; Yamaha has a XG software synth, I think it's called that. It usually comes with some soundcards. I don't know where or how to get it separate, or how much it costs. It sounds pretty good though.

Ah, link. I think I have a COA around here somewhere. Send me a PM if the trial sounds good.

Hmmm... That sounds familiar... I think actually my game theater came with a copy of that, but I didn't install the junk on the cds. I'll take a looky when I get home and give that a try. Thanks!
