Better HSF means what?

I am planning to build a computer and am looking at different heasinks/fans(HSF). I think I want a ThermalTake Volcano 7 but am unsure. If you are not overclocking you system(I will definitely do though) will better cooling result in better performance?

Any help is appreciated

Yes definatly. Lower temps will make your system stabler and you will be able to oc even more. I would recomend the Alpha Pal 8045. I am using a 39cfm Pananflo fan and i get idle temps of 36C with that heatsink.

honestly, if you arent overclocking you could stick with the retail hsf, and be fine .. just my thoughts ..

Well, piece of mind is a good reason, not performance since you're not overclocking. You get what you pay for as they say, and for a couple more bucks you might just extend the life of your processor for a little longer. I think it's worth it.

A good HSF means lower temps for the CPU (especially load temps) and thus removes heat as the source of possible system instability. However,
airflow in the case plays a big factor in lowering overall temps.

Hell no. Better HSF means lower temperature and it makes your system stabler but it doesnt mean better performance. It still takes the same amount of time to open an application and you get same performance with 3dmark2001.

It's true, it's true.

stability is not affected below a certain threshold temp. AMD says as long as the core is under 90C, the system will be 100% stable. I imagine if you proved this isn't the case, you could probably get your CPU replaced.

He's right. Although I think anything under 70C should not affect stability.
