I bought the SLK900 to use the 92 mm fan, so I could go even quieter, but I'm realizing that the 92 mm fans for the noise levels that I want aren't going to give me any more cfm than a good 80 mm fan. Plus, because the fan is bigger on the 92 mm fan, there is a larger dead spot in the most critical area of the heatsink. If I do use the SLK900, it will probably be with a 80 mm fan as well. The alpha has more surface area the SLK900A has more mass... who knows... a guy over at overclockers.com does this with a panaflo la1 80mm and got great quiet results from the 80mm...
True.. That's why I bought it in the first place. I don't even think I would've paid $30 for it because I really didn't need it. I did pay about $30 for my Alpha heatsink back when I bought it. I was just wondering which one was better is all with the same 80 mm fan on it.i only got one because it was $20... no way i'm paying $40-50 for that thing before.
What's a Panaflo U1a? Did you mean to say L1a?I'd wager the SLK900a has the edge by a degree or 2 over the Alpha. My 8045 beats my SK7 by 2-3C, which would put it about on par with a SLK800. I use a Panaflo U1a @ 7v on it, FWIW.
