Better Graphics card, worst fps?

Hello. Recently I bought a HD 7750 but decided it was too slow. Then I went out and bought a Antec 500W psu and an HD 7770.

After installing the 7770, the fan speed idles around 74C and the load of the GPU is about 99 idle. Trying to play games, I get significantly less fps than the 7750. Anyone know why?

my apu is A8 3850. drivers are up to date.

If usage is so high on idle something is definitely wrong.

I would start with a driver sweep removal of the drivers and do a reinstall.

But capture the clock speeds and usage using GPU-Z or similar as it can be clock speed problems as well as usage issues.

The HD7770 is very insignificantly faster than the 7750, it makes little sense to me that you would have bought it as an upgrade. A 7850 or higher would have made a lot more sense.

Am I reading correctly - 99c? That's... very high.

I uninstalled my old drivers and installed ATI 12.6.

The temperatures are idle at 35C now. Everything is fine. Except that CCC doesn't work and my computer goes out of wack. Things won't open etc.

If I upgrade my drivers higher, the same thing happens again and I get 74C and 99 idle load.

However, if I just uninstall everything ATI, everything works fine. It's just that i'm out the control center.

Is that normal?

What drivers were you using before you installed 12.6?

You could try an RMA? Card might be faulty.

Also, try to get a 7790 at least instead of a 7770. The 7770 is not that much faster than a 7750, but a 7790 is much faster.

This standalone uninstallation utility will clean your system of any existing AMD Catalyst™ drivers to prepare your PC for the clean installation of a new driver version. Currently supports Windows 7 at this time."

If you run on Windows 8 it will delete critical system files and hose the installation. Just a FYI.

Is fan spining? If so, how fast? Can you hear "wind noise"? If yes, than the heatsink is not tight - RMA
If fan is not spinning or does it slowly, try to reinstall drivers.
You may want to check GPU utilization @idle - msi afterburner will do. You may have bitcoin troyan which is using 100% of GPU all the time to mine bitcoins.
I have Club3d HD7770 and I can turn fan to 0% (totally passive) and i'm still 40'celc when idling in windows.

Install the latest WHQL drivers, NOT beta drivers. See how it works.

But I agree, a 7770 is not going to be noticeably faster than a 7750. A 7790 will be noticeable, but a 7850 would be a far better choice.
