Better digital Camera of these 2?

Personally, in that class of camera, I would go with a Canon A85. OF course, for ~$250 (newegg.com), you can get the Fuji Finepix S3100, with is essentially the same camera as the first one you listed, but it has the 4mp sensor.

Another good camera in that range is the Nikon Coolpix 4100.

I know I just messed up your ideas, but I think any of the cameras listed here would be better than those, at comparable prices.
