Better Deal? Toshiba 1005-s157 or 1805-s177

Hi,

I was just wondering which is the better laptop: the 1.06 GHz Mobile Celeron with 133 FSB, or the 1.1 GHz Desktop Celeron with 100 FSB. The 1005 comes with the Intel 830MG chipset, whereas the 1805 comes with a Ali CyberAladdin-T chipset. I understand that the 1805 has a problem with overheating on the underside. All factors taken into consideration, which is the better of the two, REGARDLESS of price? Personal experience would be greatly appreciated. Finally, what sort of increased longevity am I looking at if I choose the 1805's Lithium Ion battery over the 1005's NiMH battery?

Thanks.

No offense, but I beg to differ. There are "hot" deals for both these units currently, and my post allows ATers to make the most of their money. Is this not the foundation of "Hot Deals"?

Here's the definition of the Hot Deals forum as found on the forums homepage:
Post the hottest prices and deals you've found on the net in the AnandTech Hot Deals forum. Please stick to deals you've found, not items you are seeking. This is NOT a shopping service. No dealers and no SPAM (IE: muli-level marketing, pay-to-surf, pay-for-referral schemes or links to auctions) allowed! Please DO NOT POST COUPON NUMBERS or PROMOTIONAL CODES.

This thread does not meet the above mentioned criteria. Since there are already two threads which exist for both laptops I would suggest reading both threads from top to bottom, then if you still cannot decide which is the better laptop for you, then post your question in one or both of the threads. Remember everyone has different criteria which is important to them, some prefer the better processor/cache and price of the $699 1005-S157 and some prefer the built-in NIC, Lithium Ion battery and 5GB larger hard drive of the $799 1005-s157.

I've read some posts that both laptops are out of stock, so you're probably screwed either way. I say go for whichever best meets your needs, price range and most importantly is it in stock?

For your convenience here are links to the two threads:
$699 Toshiba 1005-S157
$799 Toshiba 1805-S177

No its not. You wouldve gotten away with your justification if you wouldve posted the "deal" with prices and then asked your question. But you didnt so you gotta take the heat and admit its not a deal at all.

And according to your definition of a "hot deal" being based on comparing two similar products to get an opinion on which is best, then we should be allowed to ask which is better between Mac vs PC, Flat Screen vs CRT, Honda vs Toyota and Mentadent vs Aquafresh. (BTW. Mentadent will defeat ANY toothpaste you put it up against so dont bother trying)

the 1005 is better. the chipset of the 1805 is slow. the 1805 is 100fsb. and the 1805 uses a desktop chip thus nullifying your battery .

the 1005 has a celeron tualatin-m with 1066 mhz , 133bus 256k cache
the 1805 has a p3 1100mhz , 100fsb , 256k cache coppermine core. the 1005 is faster, lighter, and cheaper.

not having a lan port on the 1005 is not a big deal, a mini pci 10/100 lan 56k modem card can be bought to replace it for $50 or so.

woohoo, your post allows ATers (like myself) to make the most of my money thru this hot deal... :p But am i blind or what, i dont see any details to this so-called deal... SO HOW IS THIS CONSIDERED A HOT DEAL IF YOU DONT LIST ANY DETAILS??? :disgust:

The point of replying is to ask questions about a deal... not to make a completely new thread asking about a deal that's taking place in another thread.. if everyone did that, it would clutter up HD forums..
