Better choice?: Swap screens or swap swap screen?

1: XPS with 1920x1200 TrueBrite (glossy) screen ($125 upgrade on a Dell), new

2: 9300 with 1440x900 with a Nu-Shield, 6 months old, perfect condition

3: 9300 with a 1440x900 non-glossy with a dead pixel in the lower left corner

I bought an XPS but don't want the higher resolution screen. I was going to swap it on my 9300 and sell the 9300 (2.13Ghz, 1GB ram, 7200RPM drive, dvdrw, etc) with an XPS screen. Then put the 9300 screen I have now on my XPS.

A guy wants to trade me his 9300 screen for my XPS screen, plus about $125 in cash. I could put his 9300 screen on my 9300, and sell it with a dead pixel :(

Which would be the best route? Sounds confusing I'm sure. Notebook with a dead pixel and $125, or notebook with an XPS screen? Which is the better deal :(

Surprised that you're going w/ 1440x900 over the UXGA, but hey- to each their own. I've got 1440x900 in my Sager 8790 and the TrueBrite in my 9300 at work. Love the glossiness of the Dell, but the UXGA's just a bit too small; so in that, I agree with your choice.

If you're confident in your ability to swap out the screens and don't mind voiding your warranty (if you have one), then why not go for the 9300 screen since that's what you prefer? Personally, I wouldn't do it, but I'm not the one looking at your computer screen ;) Which is the better deal... hard to say. Guess it depends on how much dead pixels bother you. And whether you think it'd be easier to sell the 9300 w/ a glossy UXGA screen or a WXGA with a dead pixel. You might make $125 going the dead pixel route, but how much are you going to lose in the difference when it comes to sale time?

Well it's mostly for gaming, and native resolution = not as much need for AA. So more of a performance issue. No way can I run Oblivion at 1920x1200 with everything on. But at 1440x900, should be able to.

I think I've decided to pass on the dead pixel screen and just swap the good ones. Will put the 9300 in FS/FT later and see how it does.

And not too scared of doing it, I put some speaker wire between two holes in the CPU socket a few months ago, taking out 6 screws and disconnecting 2 wires ain't gonna hurt ;)
