contemplating between these two systems:

Fujistsu S6120

-14" display 1024*768
-40 gb HDD
-Intel mobile centrino 1.4ghz processor
-512mb RAM
-2 batteries (when used together, 6 hours of battery life)
-Removeable CDRW/DVD drive
-4 pounds with the optical drive out and 1 battery
-no warrenty (but obviously in working order)
-$1100

or

IBM X30
-PIII-M 1.2-GHz
-40 gb HDD
-512MB RAM
-12-inch 1024*768
-1 battery but lasts 5 hours
-no optical drives (i will be using my own external)
-little more than 3.5 pounds without optical drive and batter
-warrenty until late 2005/early 2006
-$900

i will use it for school work, surfing the web, email, notes, etc...

can either or both of these hook up to my LCD?

I'd go with the Fujitsu- bigger screen, built-in optical drive, two batteries, faster processor.

Agreed, though no warranty on a laptop could likely come back to haunt you later

I would go with the one with a warrenty personally. If its for notes and stuff it really doesn't need to be all that fast. But super light is nice, My laptop is 5 pounds my next will be smaller im sure of that.
