Ordering a Burner for a friend, is there anything better than the TDK 12x10x32x for $140 or less ?

Thanks...

Well I don't know if better...it uses a different burn-proof like technology called justlink (patented by Ricoh), but the aopen 1232a at newegg is 109 I guess now...Gets good reviews at cdrlabs.com and the ricoh gets raving reviews against plextor at cdrinfo.com

The ricoh 7125 which is the same with justlink I think is about 20-30 more...dunno why.

The aopen is full retail ackage with nero software...

I have the drive, and I have hit DAE rip speeds of 36.8x...Haven't had problem yet...one coaster but that was caused by a insuffucient PS giving up and rebootng during burn process.

teac 512eb $122 The LG (formerly Goldstar) 12x10x40 is nice, no burn proof or anything but I have yet to make a coaster with it. It can be had for somewhere around $110.

i hear the Lite-on burners are pretty good too, newegg has them for $98.00 right now

maybe i'll go get one for myself, hmmm...

Is the lite-on a full retail box or oem without burning software or older ez creator software?

If lite-on cd-rws are like thier cd-roms, watch out!!!

Duvie

are they that bad then? i'am not sure.
i always wanted a Ricoh but there harder to find now since i think that Ricoh has stopped there CD-RW line.

I don't know about the cd-rw per say...do a search over the last 45 days over all the forums I remember someone starting a thread asking about the lite-on becuase of the newegg prices...

If you want a ricoh get the aopen 1232a...it is a ricoh for all intensive purposes.

Where did you here ricoh was getting out of cd-rw market???

edit: just as I thought it is an OEM version and comes with ezcd creator v4.02...Aopen is full retail with nero 5.0 upgradable to 5.5 for free with Norton ghost program and another packet writing program. PLus all the cables, and 1 blank cd-r and 1 blank cd-rw.

duvie,

i must have been misinformed, sorry about the confusion, i just checked ricoh's site and they are in fact still making CD-RW drives.

Yeah, the Blaster for $99 is the DOTD over at Buy.com, and looks pretty good. I haven't seen anything bad about that drive. However, I don't think it comes with Nero software. Creative's product info page says it is bundled with "NTI CD Maker", which just ain't the same.

Personally, I've read really good things about this Lite-on drive at Newegg for $97 here.

A highly technical review of the Lite-on drive can be found here. Basically, the review analyzes every single feature of the drive and finds that it works exactly as advertised. It also works with CloneCD (for copying copy protected CDs), something that some of these newer CDRW's won't do.
