Better alternative to Windows 7 built in Backup Utility?

Hi All,

Just got a new laptop and have Win 7 64 bit on it. I want to create a complete image of C:\ drive and send to an external USB drive. BUT, I do not want ti create a full image of the drive - only copy used space on the partition. I also want to exclude Pagefile and Hibernation file from this.

Anyone know of a good/free utility to do this. I've tried the Win 7 backup utility and it is a nightmare.

I like the system image backup with Windows 7 and Vista. I have used the Vista version a few times to restore my operating system partition and it worked really good. I can't speak for the regular backup parts of this program, but I think the imaging part is pretty solid.

I agree with Jack. I picked up Acronis True Image at Best Buy last week for $20, and it was so worth it.

Some drive companies have free versions that might work for the OP.
