Moments like this are when other western countries regret being toothless unlike the US. The UK is at Iran's whim in this situation, because they can do nothing. If they were US sailors, a quick buildup of force on the border combined with an enraged American public would change Iran's mind real quick. No matter how you feel about Bush, he aint no Jimmy Carter.

from what i read in the news, iran actually went into iraq's terretorial waters and since iraq is pretty much us property for now, iran invaded america's colony and seized 15 british soldeirs. will the brits act like we did in the summer and go to an all out attack against iran? i doubt it.

It's funny how there's all these "oh we're soooo tough, we would have kicked their @ss already, turned iran into a wasteland" etc etc. The good news is, it makes it easier to pick out the morons. Only naive stupid idiots think that way, it's just not how the world works.

You criticize.. Now please explain to the 'morons' how the world works.

To be fair, if this DID happen to American sailors, what would be the ramifications?

Seriously.. Do you really think bush would send your guys in all guns blazing? I don't think so.
He didn't do it with the Chinese.

Well d'uh. How big is the Chinese military compared to the Iranian military? You can't afford to invade China, Iran on the other hand would be little more than a training exercise.

I volunteer you to be the first casualty in the training exercise of no return. Iran's army is FAR from a joke.

Yeah, people said the same thing about the Iraqi army before the start of the Gulf War. The 5th largest army in the world got overrun in less than a week once the US tanks rolled in. Irans army is 1970's generation Russian tanks and a couple of F-14's that can barely get off the ground because they don't have spare parts. The Gulf wars have proven that a bunch of conscripts holding AK-47s and screaming "Death to the Great Satan" are no match for a modern army.

Obviously the US wouldnt have sat back and watched our sailors be kidnapped. Read more of what this guy said here-
http://www.hamiltonspectator.com/NASApp...pageid=1020420665036&col=1112188062581

From the article:
"The 15 British sailors and marines who were captured and taken to Tehran for 'questioning' last week are undoubtedly having an unpleasant time, but they are alive, and Britain is only involved in two wars, in Iraq and Afghanistan. If it had been one of Horner's boarding teams, they would all be dead, and the United States and Iran would now be at war."

Hmm -
15 dead soldiers + another ME war vs. 15 alive captives and time for negotiation, diplomacy, and rescue planning (if needed)

What would be the best outcome?

the best outcome would be Iran stop playing games like this and do what the UN Security Council resolutions require of them

Definitely agreed. Now is the best way to this eventual outcome through violence or a combination of sanctions and political pressure?

And if they don't respond to the slap on the wrists? Do nothing?

Edit: Please read the entire article... Gwynne Dyer is IMHO one of the better independent journalists

I disagree with that assessment. More likely scenario would have been a blockade of the ship instead of firing peas from a rubber boat.
