What would be a good 2.1 speaker setup? This is for a computer by the way. These 6 year old Boaston Acoustics are really starting to sound like crap.

I have the Creative "I-Trique" L3500 and find it to be great for a 2.1 set up. They sound very full size for such a small speaker. They also have a quality feel to them. You can check them out on the creative labs web site.

I have a Logitech Z2200 2.1 set and they're great. They're about $230 but worth every penny.

Some options:

Swan m200s + add a sub later if you want

Klipsch promedias (worth it over the GMX by most accounts)

Altec Lansing MX5021/6021

Get a dayton sub for $99 or $120 shipped, add in a pair of cheap bookshelf speakers (Like Polk R15s for $40 or $50 when they go on sale) and pick up a cheap stereo receiver off ebay to power the speakers.

$230 is Z-5500 and Progamer territory lol.

I second the Swans, you don't really need a sub for that set, they hold up well on their own.

As for pure sound quality (minus about 10hz extension), the many internet opinions on $100 Klipsch 2.0 Ultras are that the Swans sound "muddy" in comparison.

My old Microsoft Digital Sound System 80 *always* gets comments on how great they sound compared to other systems. Great bass and mid and high ranges.

That Dayton looks like it's designed more for dispersion than near-field convergence. It looks like you might get some lobing directly on-axis.

Klipsch promedia

I second that.

They sound nice, but the electronics that power them are Sh*t: they die and/or fall apart!

I've heard that before too.. but I still have yet to find a better overall sounding set of 2.1 PC speakers. I liked them much more than my Logitech sets that I've owned (too much bass, needs dedicated tweeters).

Oh so now you are going to sit there and hate on them.
Because all other speakers are made with special processes so they last forever :disgust: (and all promedias are junk)

Well whatever then dude. Bye.

At least with my suggestion (BR-1 + Velleman kit + A/C Adaptor) if a component fails, you can replace that exact component and not have to buy a whole new set of speakers. :p

Take that you heretics!

I am not bashing them, I would really love to own a pair of them. But my experiences with them in the past have not been great. For a while amplifiers would quit and most of the owners would get have to pay huge shipping costs to get it fixed. I confirmed this one with a Klipsch representitive he told me that a vast majoritiy of them were buring up due to poor design. Since then I have seen many more Kilpsch speakers but they all had some other kind of electrical problem due once again to poor design.

No I am not saying that the speaker I have was built and desgned by GOD (even my ears will fail) to last forever and sound perfect. But a ton of the Kilpsch speakers sold have had problems and lots of returns have been made.
