LOL you have to stop when you get "tired" ?

wow... that sounds like the cheapest mechanic ever.

Well he runs out of stamina but you can upgrade that, I'm early in the game, same for health and speed.

He stops to take a breather on his own. I'm sure upgrading it allows for stamina gauge to not go down so fast. As long as you don't let it deplete completely you can still run.

His speed also depends on if you are hurt or not. If your leg gets hurt you limp, arm..he starts holding it, etc.

Seems like the old Resident Evil's where tank-like controls and bad save system make the game artificially suspenseful.

My huge worry. I love horror/survival games, but when it's due to wonky controls/camera (I'm looking at you RE/SH) it's pretty meh.

I haven't played this game, and I know I'm jaded but typically I try a game before I make an opinion. Do you even play games? You shit on every game w/o even playing it. Go play your GTA and stfu.

Sorry, this isn't your thread, so you can bye bye yourself. You should probably look at your posting history and see where the commonality is.

Did I say it was my thread? Or imply that? I said bye to you. I'm not the one trying to silence others opinions - that's you.

It really is interesting, the projection going on here.

But if all the tension is generated simply because your character moves slower than the enemies, how is it really all that great?

First of all, that's not even close to being accurate. At normal run, you're faster than most any enemy. They may have short bursts of sprinting or lunging towards you, but you can sprint away too.
Please at least play games before you form opinions on them.

I've been sneaking everywhere and barely ever run unless there is a swarm of enemies. But I hear this changes after chapter 3. I'm just very cautious in games like these.

What strategy did you use to defeat the chainsaw guy in the barn? I thought about just blasting the doors with the shotgun then hitting him with a bunch of bows before he starts moving.

It seems enemies respawn when he gets loose. I couldn't upgrade my weapons yet so I don't have much ammo. I think I did that section over 4 times and I should save right after finding the crossbow so I don't have to get it each time after I die.

Completed the game on survival last night. Overall thought it was an excellent game. Didn't really care too much for the story, but the atmosphere and suspense the game play presented was amazing. Survival horror games aren't my thing, but gave this a shot. Glad I did so.

Trying to enjoy this game but I wish it would crash less. Hate retracing my steps over and over =\

Finally somebody else thinks this. I **REMOVED** HATED the early RE games. Don't forget horrid camera angles.

No cursing in PCG.

I installed the game but the black bars were bugging me.
A friend pointed me to the following config command changes.
Hope this helps some of you out.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/2j5s7i/debug_console_commands_for_the_evil_within_on_pc/

"I figured this would be important for the people who intend to play this game on the PC, so here are the full list of debug commands for the PC version of The Evil Within.
To access the debug console, do the following:
In Steam, right click on The Evil Within and select “properties” then under the General tab, hit “set launch options.” Put this in to unlock the console: +com_allowconsole 1
Once the game has launched, hit the Insert key to bring down the developer console.
These are the commands you can use and some notes about each:
R_swapinterval <NUMBER> // Sets the FPS lock. Note that the numbers below are negative. -2: This is the default, set to 30 FPS. This is the officially supported frame rate. -1: This sets the FPS limit to 60. Fully playable, although there may be quirks (we’re going to fix these). 0: This fully unlocks the FPS. We do not recommend playing above 60. We will not fix any issues above 60.
God // God mode. You are effectively invincible, and certain enemy kill moves will not be used against you (Laura, for example, will not jump on you)
Noclip // Allows you to walk through walls
G_infiniteammo // Unlimited ammo (provided you have at least 1 bullet when you enable this)
G_stoptime 1 // Stops time. Note there is a bug right now where using this command causes a UI element to appear on screen. We’re looking to fix that in the near future. Re enable time with g_stoptime 0
Toggledebugcamera // Separates the camera from Sebastian so you can freely move around the
R_forceaspectratio <NUMBER> // Sets the aspect ratio. Default is 2.5, which is our official aspect ratio. 0 is full screen, but not ideal. 1.8 or 2 is probably most comfortable for those who don’t want bars.
Com_showFPS // Turns on id’s native FPS counter
Startslowmotion2 // Slows down time
Stopslowmotion // Disables slow motion"

A lot of animosity towards me on this forum. I find it interesting.

You don't contribute anything to the thread though.

sze5003 actually gave you constructive responses yet all you did was pick one sentence to scoff at each time.

I'm surprised he was able to even keep a conversation with you at all. Surprised anyone can. You're just useless and a waste of internet bandwidth.

So, I finally beat this game the other day. Loved it. A proper "survival horror" title if I've ever seen one (emphasis being on "survival" - walking around with half health, two bullets, and wondering what to do about the three enemies down the hallway lumbering toward you).

It's not so much scary, as it is just plain brutal. It's difficult. Everything can and will kill you. I would compare it to Dark Souls, but that game is more about recognizing and adapting to patterns, then it becomes easy. Not so much in The Evil Within. The game will sometimes punish you for shit that isn't even your fault, just to say "fuck you". There are some situations that will hurt you which there will be no way you could have predicted ahead of time. Sometime's it's outright unfair and I've yelled at my screen on several occasions because of it.

That said, it has some of the best artistic design and creative direction I've ever seen in a horror game... ever. I don't want to spoil too much, but the way the game builds tension and introduces you to enemies and bosses is brilliant sometimes. There are some scenes in the game that are burned into my memory because of how striking and memorable they are.

Also worth noting is that the game isn't very well-optimized. My OC'd i7-4790k and GTX 980 can't quite run it at a steady 60fps. But it was worth bearing through the FPS drops for everything else.

The game is on sale for $20 right now for those interested. Well worth it IMO.
