Bethesda E3 2015

So, did anyone watch Bethesda last night? I'm assuming so. What are your thoughts on what's coming?

DOOM: That looked awesome. I'm ready for it, I need it. I'm also of the mindset that a spring release is perfect, as it keeps them from the dozen holiday shooters (Halo, Battlefront, BO3, possibly more). The editing stuff was also really awesome, and I think it's where more games need to go--letting us customize game types, like Project Spark.

TES: Legends: I didn't even pay attention. I just assume it's a Hearthstone copycat, and I didn't care about that. It might be fine, just not my type of game.

Battlecry: I don't know, it looked kind of like a weak TF2 competitor, but with melee combat as the focus. I'm not sure what I find interesting, but I signed up for the beta, just in-case it's decent.

TESO: I was expecting a full expansion announcement. I've struggled with finding a reason to pick TESO up, as MMOs just take so much time to commit to. Seemed like a pre-announcement of some smaller stuff with no target release, so kind of just bland acknowledgement that the game's still being worked on.

Fallout Shelter: Looked like a pretty ho-hum time waster, but with the "I have to have it" addition of Fallout. I'm really hoping that W10's Android and iOS compilers (along with the ecosystem unification of W10 itself) will mean this game (and the Pip-Boy app) make their way to W10 sometime.

Dishonored 2: No release date was a little sad. I'm guessing that makes it a spring 2017 game. I guess I still need to finish the first one, and I might honestly just pick up the re-release on the One (depending on price), as I kind of get lazy when I try to play game on PC with a controller, and then I never want to fire up Steam to play then. There really wasn't much to show about the game, but I trust it'll be pretty good.

Fallout 4: I mean, what's missing from it? They seem to have thrown everything possible into the game, even building little games within the game. The character creation sans-sliders and set things was pretty cool. I'm curious as to how the premise will work (did they explain any of the timeline in the previous two Fallout game? I don't remember). The weapon and armor customization is cool, to a point I'm a little disappointed there's no co-op (Because showing creations off to friends would be neat). Given that they're letting you choose male or female, I think it'd have made sense to use both characters to try to allow folks to at least have two-player co-op. Also, like I said with Fallout Shelter, I'd like to get the Pip-Boy Edition, but they'll need to get the app to Windows 10 first, as it becomes useless plastic to me otherwise. Oh, and that dog better not die in the game. We'll have some issues, Bethesda and I, if that dog dies.

Lets just say this. I heard more from Bethesda yesterday than I have heard at some previous E3 conferences as a whole.

Wow. Exciting stuff.

I know, DOOM looked awesome. But still, they announced a lot, but it wasn't mind-blowing, in many respects. The Battlecry and TES: Legends were non-starters for me, and the iOS exclusivity of Fallout Shelter and the non-Microsoft Pip-Boy app were disappointing (though not surprising). So, to me, it was two major games, a pretty nice one in Dishonored 2 that got no release window, and some kind-of-neat stuff I either can't use (the Fallout mobile stuff) or don't care much about (TESO, Legends, Battlecry).

I mean, if we compare third-party publishers, Bethesda probably put out almost as much as anyone else will (thought Ubi and EA have more franchises to pull from right now), but I care more about how great those two flagships looked than how much stuff was there.

Completely agree. For their first big conference, it was very well done. Tight presentation. Focused on the stuff people care about and quickly mentioned some of the smaller stuff as filler. Their pacing was great. Very impressive.
