The insurance premiums for the death traps, if that's what they turn out to be, will negate the low initial price off the car. I'm not worried. You don't see people flocking to hyundai and kia en masse.

yea, this is what people are missing... China is obviously trying to catch up in terms of technological capability. it's not starting off in the same place as Japan or the US. but just like Japan didn't start off in the same place as the US, it's not really about where you begin, but more about what you do after you begin... Japan learned from its mistakes and innovated faster than the US, which is why their cars are now superior.

Yup. I'd be EXTREMELY surprised if the Chinese, starting from essentially zero car manufacturing experience, to suddenly selling cars that are on par with Honda, Ford, GM, etc. It'll take a few years, and the manufacturers need to adopt a quality first mentality as they try to compete, because there's a lot more to cars than just price.

It's going to be extremely difficult for Chinese cars to compete as it is; they're essentially trying to enter an already mature market with LOTS of competitors who already know exactly what's going on.
