a Friend he's a DJ at a bar, brought me his laptop with 15 GB's of songs, some were MP3's and some where WMA files. he said the songs where all messed up, I heard them they sounded all messed up.

Some of the Songs bilrate where all messed up jumping from like 100 to 300 or whatever could this have something to do with it? Also he uses Virtual DJ 2 and he said when he load a song it will anylize to about 50% then stop.

He also uses Media Player alot I myself only like using Winamp for MP3's so maybe it something screwwing him up.

So I backed them up and formated and install the OS without SP2 and it worked fine that night but then he updated to SP2 and the songs sounded all messed up again do you know what this could be from?

He has a Acer TravelMate 2300, drivers are all uptodate for his laptop.

I have all his files still on my system here if there is anyway I can tell from them why they messed up.

Thanks.

Well this is obviously not a problem with the files as the "clean installed OS" can play them all fine.

I believe that their is some update that is occuring that is causing this playback problem. If he really wants the updates then he can try uninstalling the updates 1 by 1 until he isolates the trouble maker. This is assuming that the update is uninstallable.

Personally I would simply not update.

NOTE: The changing bitrate is probably just VBR encoding.
