BestBuy's car audio department SUCKS!

So I was looking for a subwoofer/enclosure/amp and some component speakers so I headed to bestbuy to get a quote.. After looking at my car the audio guy quoted me a minimum of $1,000! I told him that I couldn't afford that and that I didn't want anything high-end, just something decent.. He then said "Oh, that's not high-end.. High end would cost you $2,000-$3,000!"... Keep in mind this is WITHOUT A head unit and a 4ch amp (only a mono amp for the sub).. I quickly ran out of the store and to Circuit city... Got a MTX amp, enclosure, and two MTX subs for $270 installed.. SLIGHTLY more reasonable.. I passed on the components this week but they're only $200 plus installation at CC... I love bestbuy but really don't know what's up with their car audio department....

That guy was an ass jockey to be sure. $2-3k may be high end for best buy but it's chump change for a REAL high end car audio setup. Eitherway $1k is going to give you more power than most people need. I think for $270 you most likely have a pretty decent pounding setup now. Nothing an audio-elitest would like but definitely not shabby.

Exactly, I made the point that I was a student and out of work and didn't need something high end, just something to replace my harsh stock speakers and a sub to add some punch.. He made it seem that a low end system would go for $1,000 and that really pissed me off..

Hell I spent $280 on the sentra for a headunit and 4 speakers for a total overhaul to replace the stock and it sounds not half bad! I do wish it had a sub tho.

$1000 maybe for sub, box, headunit, component speakers, etc.

but for a sub/amp, i highly doubt bestbuy has any sub/amp combos that can go for 1000$ w/ install. unless fosgate is making 700$ subs now :🙄:

If you want a decent set, circuit city is selling an mtx "partypack" for $199.. According to reviews, the only really weak part of it is the amp..I'm fine with it but I'm sure you can ebay it and pick up a better one.. Does a great job of filling in the "gaps" of crappy coaxs - I may not even need the components now (though the mids and high are still kinda harsh, though I can live with it)..

To be fair that's sub/amp and a component set (a crappy rockford fosgate set and not the infinitys that I originally wanted).. Yeah, if the price was with a decent head unit and the total package I'd consider it fair.. I asked him to write a detailed list of everything included and he got pissed.. He said "Listen, you don't believe me? I'm SAVING you $500 here and you want proof?"

Hehe. I was at futureshop (Canada's version of best buy) and a friend was buying a HD and he asked the salesguy to drop some money off and the guy said "at this price we're not even making money". We just pretty much all chuckled and he felt like the fool he was.

bahhaha, sadness. list would go like this:

fosgate amp: $200
fosgate sub: $200
components: $200
install: $100
profit: $300
TOTAL: $1000
thats being fair 😛

BestBuy's car audio department SUCKS!

you say that like its not something 99% of this board didn't know already🙂

or rather, wouldn't it be 'BestBuy just plain sucks if you have to do anything besides get an item at the price of the ticket'?

Call me old fashioned, but I like BestBuy for a few things.. I buy my CDRs and DVDs there.. The store does have it's purpose..

I like their car audio department...

It's not ultra high end stuff, but I paid $615 CANADIAN for a Rockford 12" Punch HE sub, a Rockford 401s amp, the box for the sub, and the wire kit, including a 4 year warranty for both amp and sub!

I was very impressed indeed.... 🙂

i haven't really had bad experiences with them. one time their audio guy helped me shop around over the phone to other stereo places in the area trying to find the best deal. so i really think it varies from store to store, person to person. if you have friends at bestbuy, their discounts on audio goodies are awesome.

i completely agree!

so was that ilke $20 US? 😀

They themselves have turned into "the Wiz" stores. I really dread going there. Their music collection sucks.. dvd's.. well I don't care for those much. Cell phones are drooled over by 13 year olds... yuck.. PC Hardware prices are through the roof, and they have mediocre products. Same goes for Circuit City(but is a bit better) I like online shopping, not actually seeing the product has its down side, but I usually save a lot more money and car audio help is just a search away. No need top hassle with a guy who know jack nothing about car stereos. I can hook up a car audio system myself no need for their installation fee
