BestBuy sells AMD now? Since When?

I went to bestbuy.com and on the front page there's a promotion on AMD desktops: up to $330 off AND free shipping on all Athlon64 CPUs.

I go to Best Buy often and I haven't seen any mention of AMD in the store or online. Though I personally wouldn't buy from them, retail spacing and promotions should certainly help AMD's business, no?

They've had AMD at Best Buy forever, just not advertised in your face like that.

Forever. They just dont advertise it unless its in the weekly newspaper advertisements, and usually only 1 computer.

A few months ago the best buy in my area had motherboard CPU's and all that type of stuff. I was pretty amazed. The only mobo's I saw were NF2's but the Abit NF-7 was pretty sweet in its day.

I went to cosco today and noticed that like 70% of their desktops were AMD-based. A month ago they only had like 30% AMD, which was better than most places. Of course all the notebooks were Intel, they only had one non-centrino (a HUGE P4).

They Sell 16-20 million a year I would kind of call that mainstream. and they are also 50-75% of Emachines lineup and they are the 3rd biggest PC manufacturer (well now its all counted under Gateway but it was that way before). Please stop trolling.

Not EVERYTHING, but yes most of their stuff is RETAIL pricing, but *GASP* they are a RETAIL store. It's not newegg/monarch/ZZF. Go to any other retailer and it will be just as bad or worse. *shrugs* Try CompUSSR!

At sams club we move HP semprons by the truckload, we offer fewer Pentium 4s than AMDs, although Intel dominates our laptop lineup.

That's where Intel is strongest, in the Pentium M series. Turion can't really keep up, from what I understand.

AMD has 50% of the Retail market in the US. You can buy AMD systems in any major Electronics stores that sell PCs.

It's not that Turion cant keep up, but rather that Turion gets thrown into crappy budget laptops with 6 cell batteries and not-very-low-power components.

CompUSA is incredibly bad. Last fall they were selling Athlon XP 2500+ processors for something like $150. That was an awful price even then.

I doubt the poster thought that far through it. But was rather speaking for himself comparing to pricewatch ect.

But yes, the rules of economics are on your side. We all know this.

I've paid a whopping $50 or more for the same thing in-town than order it online.. just so I could have it right now. I usually only do this when something is broken on my PC or dont have my corporate laptop handy.
