sorry, but I don't see how $500 is hot for a dvd+rw... even if it includes a $100 gc
maybe i am missing out on the specs of this one as opposed to others that are also dvd+rw/+r ?

Don't patronize the company that DELIBERATELY screwed it's customers - check out the forums at dvdplusrw.org to see how. There's a huge class-action suit going on, since HP decided not to respect it's customers with a free upgrade to DVD+R compatibility after the drives they promised would be compatible with a firmware upgrade were not.

Much smarter move would be either buying another +RW drive (check Philips - they're upgrading people to DVD+R for free with new drives) - or even better, for cheaper media and better compatibility, DVD-RW, courtesy of the Pioneer DVR-104 (currently $335 on pricewatch).
