bestbuy.com has x800xt (agp) in stock?

just went out to bestbuy.com, and they show x800xt in stock at 499 Is that the PE? So is that a good deal?

Is there any mention (either printed on the box graphics or a sticker) of the card being a "Platinum Edition"?. If it is a PE there should be, as the PE is ATI's current top-of-the-line card and ATI would definitely make sure the "hype" is on the box. The X800 XT PE has 520 core/560 memory specs. USUALLY this is prominently printed on the box as part of the graphics, but you may see a sticker advertising "1.12 Ghz Memory Clock. 520 Core Clock" ON A REGULAR X800 XT BOX. Unlikely, but manufacturers sometimes "cheat" on packaging to save costs or time. (Maybe the "PE" boxes were out or something. Sh%t happens).

The regular X800 XT uses 500/500 clocks so there will be no bragging about this on the box exterior.

I just went up on the Best Buy site and the picture they have is of the regular X800 XT - NON-PLATINUM EDITION". NOW, BEST BUY MAY HAVE USED THE WRONG PICTURE - maybe they didn't have the right graphic or just screwed-up. Also, if you look at the specs there is NO MENTION of the memory and core clocks at all. This is suspicious. If this was/is the X800 XT PE those specs would be there - trust me. I used to be a dual-platform (Mac and PC) computer product hardware manager and I was responsible for the ads. You always hype the best specs. I think even the Best Buy advertising people would catch this.

In practical terms, there probably isn't much of a performance difference due to the out-of-the-box clock speeds, so its' not like getting a non-PE card would be bogus, but you want to at least know what you are buying before you buy it. Also, the PE version MAY have a little bit better overclockability. I don't OC my card or the rest of my system - thats why I bought the components I have so I top-performance (for now) without the OC. If they have the "mock-up" box of the card on the shelf I would check it out very carefully for specs.

Hope this helps.

I posted this a while back in another post on this topic.
According to the part number: 100-435210, these are XT PE's. Strange though, the picture of the box shows the "vanilla" XT.

Great catch nitromullet. Like I mentioned in my post - Best Buy could have either not had the correct product graphic or they just screwed-up and used the wrong one. What I find interesting is that even ATI makes no mention of the core and memory speeds on their own page. IS ATI getting lower yields than projected of their PE speed units and they are setting us up to pull the wool over consumers eyes. Maybe they figure that the specs are elsewhere on their web site, or that with all the hype and promotion prior to launch they don't have to advertise the clocks? Or maybe they think people don't care? Hmmm...

I saw an XT-PE in the flesh at my BBY, so I'm 99% sure all XT's that BBY sells are PE's. I've been saying this all along, but if you check BBY's site on a very regular basis you will be able to find BFG 6800 Ultra's and ATI X800 XT PE's. They will pop up in stock periodically and you can grab 'em up. Also, if you go into the store and ask them to look up the XT PE or the Ultra on the "Customer Fulfillment" order system, chances are you will get lucky there too. Bonus about Cust Fulfill: free shipping!! GL to all
