Some decent deals there.

If the 3Com webcam is the "3com home connect" I would recomemnd buying it....excellent picture.
I use the Webcam32 (registered) software...love the motion trigger feature :)

Here are some I took for fun...better image could be made if I spent a moment to adjust manually...

Up close....

salescircular.com doesn't seem to have ADVANCE info. The stuff they list is for the current week, not next.

The modem has to be the winmodem that I bought labor day weekend that was $ 4.95 after rebate. The only decription is 56K on front of the box. It is a Lucent chip winmodem that is Windows 98 and Windows 2000 compatible. I know for sure, I have it loaded under both systems using suppiled install CD. Since I have a cable moden it's just for the occasional fax that I send off the machine. Nice modem for price current software drivers, no hassles installing.

DealyDo - Thank you for your input regarding the modem even though I have 640K DSL which I love, it's still probably a good idea to get a modem "just in case". Fortunately my ISP offers dial up as part of the DSL package.

So I assume it's worth the money? I have an AMD Athlon 650/K7V/128MB/30GB system.

O.T...
RossMAN - 640k DSL and free dialup? Hmm...that could only mean one thing - Verizon DSL! :D - i'm getting that in a couple days, can't wait. I've heard (according to dslreports.com) that some people had their DSL activated earlier, any idea if there's a way to figure out if that's happened?

Magellan 315 GPS is normally $149.99. Boatus.com and boatersworld.com have it at that price. Nice if you need it ASAP though. This model is discontinued I think so keep that in mind (not 100% positive).

Here are some better GPS deals:

dsports.com

Magellan 315 for $129.99 shipped ($149.99 - $20 off coupon)
Garmin eTrex $99.99 shipped ($119.99 - $20 off copuon)

Note that some of the $20 off coupons have free shipping, some don't - you get to play around and figure out which ones do have free shipping.

Think this warrants its own thread? I don't think so as there aren't any killer deals yet...

Oh what the hell, I'm going to post this seperately. Maybe someone else will dig up some better deals. I want to buy a handheld NMEA supporting GPS unit within 3-4 days.

I have the other two slower models of I/O Magic MagicWriter CD-R/CD-RW drives.
The two I own are reliable but the slower one (which I am in the process of selling) sometimes has trouble with DMA mode for packet writing.
I/O Magic does not manufacture anything, and just re-marks various manufacturer's products.
BTC made the 2x2x6 drive which even has the BTC stickers still on it.
I have no idea who made the 4x4x32 drive since it is well hidden.

Within the last couple years, it seems most repackagers (I/O Magic, HiVal, Digital Research, etc.) have been using BTC for their CD-ROM products. As a repackager, you just buy whatever is cheapest in bulk and put it in fancier packaging. So I wouldn't ever expect to get anything of good quality from these companies. Their main selling point is that they're cheap, and that's a good thing. :)

Dhendra - Nope not Verizon, I actually have US West DSL (now Qwest) with NWLink.com as my ISP (which gives you free 56k dial up access with your DSL account). If AT&T @Home cable were available in my neighborhood I'd dump DSL in a heartbeat and hop onto the cable bandwagon. I want raw speed which cable offers currently, of course after thousands of other Portland residents sign up I'll probably dust off my Cisco 675 router and go back to DSL. Cable can offer faster speeds and cheaper rates compared to DSL in my case.

DSL costs:
$25.00 regular phone line
$29.99 US West DSL line
$25.00 NWLink DSL ISP
-------------------------
$79.99 per month

Cable costs:
$39.95 AT&T @Home cable Internet including ISP
$25.00 regular phone line
-------------------------
$64.95

Plus right now AT&T @Home is offering free access until 2001 which means 3 months (Oct/Nov/Dec) free which is a $120 value.

Is anyone else here in the Pacific NorthWest that has AT&T @Home cable? How does it compare to DSL or dial up?

jkdude - I own one of the D-Link web cams and it is a great deal for only $10 (after rebate) but I warn you do not expect the best of quality. You'd better be there when CC first opens on Sunday morning because they're probably going to sell out quickly. Christmas is right around the corner and nothing beats a $10 web cam.

ROSSMAN,

I'm in the State of Washington and I have both DSL via USWEST and ATT Cable. I would have to say that I would dump DSL for cable in a heartbeat. I had DSL at 256K and was able to get consistent download at up to 60K/sec max. When cable became available, I quickly got on that bandwagon and was able to download from some several FTPs at 400K/sec each with a max thoughput of 2MB/sec (although not a sustained rate). I have to say that with cable, your speed does not drop when you make additional connections, so you can still get 10 different connections at 200K/sec each although I have never tried to max it out. One thing for sure is that you don't notice any slow down with additional connections. So with Napster, you can download from 20 different fast sites and get over 100K/sec each....it takes about 10 sec to download 10 songs.

Another reason to drop DSL is the cost...It's more expensive than cable. $50 for DSL vs $40 for cable.

Prior to ATT putting on an upload cap, I was able to upload at 400K/sec. Now, I'm limited to 128bit (or roughly 18K/sec) upload. No big loss unless you run an FTP or host alot of online games.
