Best XP combo under $100

Hi,

I need some advice on the best XP chip and mobo for under $100.

I would like to be able to do some overclocking with the combo. I don't need to buy them both from the same place either. I just am not real keen on the whole overclocking thing. So if anyone knows of some good deals right now help me out. 🙂 Or just some advice on what some good mobos are for the price.

Links would be helpful.

Thanks much!!

Thats a pretty tight budget. Newegg has the products listed below. The athlon is basically the best you can get for around $50, and remember, a cheaper OEM chip doesn't have a HSF. The mobo is only $54, and has the most number of votes for any AMD mobo (4/5 from 300+ votes) Have you considered the BST forums? That would be the most bang for your buck. As far as OCing, take what you can get, because there's not much selection for sub $100.

AMD Athlon XP 2000+, 266 FSB, 256K Cache Processor - Retail $57

Shuttle "AN35N-Ultra" nForce2 Ultra 400 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket A CPU -RETAIL $54

TOTAL: $111

I'll vouch for that being a kick-ass motherboard. Its OCing options could be better -- but for $54, it can't be beat in terms of price/performance, and it's rock-solid even when overclocked.

If you live near a Fry's Electronics, they often have VERY cheap MB/CPU combos -- but you get crap ECS motherboards with them. YMMV, but I've seen more complaints about ECS boards flaking out on here than any other brand.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I actually already have a good video card I will be using. Just thinking of a new cpu/mobo setup. The Shuttle sounds rel good for what I need. I may be able to get a 1700+ TBred from a friend and fit that into my budget. I know those suckers are good for overclocking.

Thanks!

Good choice, you sound like you have a nice value system ahead of you. Keep us posted as I love to see cheap systems that can rock with the big boys. Shows alot more computer savvy than dropping a bunch of bucks on top of the line parts.🙂

That shutte is good for 225FSB and vcores up the 2.1 so should make for a hell of an overclocked t-bred. Locked or not.🙂
