I'm thinking of hosting an XBox LAN party for the Super Bowl. I'm looking for 2-3 game suggestions. My requirements are:

- should be popular enough that people are likely to already own it
- must be available for ~$20 (used or new) for those who don't already own it
- must be a fun multiplayer game that supports lots of simultaneous players
- should support split screen in case we have more players than consoles
- I'm looking for games from more than 1 genre for those who don't like FPS games

I look forward to your recommendations!

Might need a different platform other than Shooterbox 360 for non FPS. All the best 360 games are FPS to some extent. Any good non FPS games are single player.

I know you asked for games that support lots of simultaneous players. But if there'll be drinking at this party and you have the Kinect, the Dance Party games are pretty good. With liquor involved just spectating can be a blast. And you can have dance off's. It's super entertaining imho if the people can't dance :D

If this is the list of all available games, there are a ton of FPS on there that are fun. I've played a few of the non-FPS on there and can recommend:

Blur - it's like Mario Kart with real cars, super fun
Gears of War 1, 2 or 3 - horde mode is cool with a few people, I didn't play the other mp gametypes though

I like halo the best because you can do 4 on 1 console.. I have 2 xboxes so I been doing 8 player halo reach. I have had some problem getting halo 4 to go on systemlink and heard others have also

im gonna check out gears of war, after a while, halo lan party gets boring.. haha.. if i can get it cheap off ebay :)

Not to steal your thread, but you might benefit from this too. How do you setup a spectator (projector or large tv) for everyone to see?

Halo
COD
...you could even do demo games ; )

Fighting ( you could have a small tournament ), FPS ( Herp derp, its a console.) or racing.
For the fighting tournament i recommend Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter. It'd be pretty cool to win a small prize and see who is the best at these game.

I second the fighting game tournament recommendation. Three solid choices are Street Fighter, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. They all have tournament modes built-in and you only need 1 console. My choice would be TTT2 and UMvC3.

Only games really good for LAN partying are MADDEN, but you need 2 xbox's to lan party really, NBA games etc, and HALO period halo is the Xbox lan game, nothing can be as thrilling as a serious halo game amongst friends.

I've always thought Bomberman Live was a fun party game. Two consoles + live = 2-8 players.

That's sacrilege. Halo LAN play simply does not get boring. :p Alternating between LAN and playing with various Halo clans through Halo Forum on Xbox Live, and there is pretty much no need for Gears of War.
