Best/Worst frozen burritos?

Went shopping last night at Walmart and thought I'd grab a couple of frozen burritos that I'd never seen before. $2 each, how bad could they be?

Wow. These things were the most tasteless, horrible frozen burritos that I've ever eaten. And I've had a LOT of really cheap frozen burritos in my day.

Tina's is the brand I find on the wrapper. Just SO bad. I've had 33 cent Little Juan's frozen burritos that were infinitely better. Tasteless doesn't even begin to describe the flavor. Just ... nothing. And it was half filled with half-cooked rice, which I don't get. At least cook the damned rice.

El Monterrey beef & bean (& soy protein) are a bit bland too but acceptable with salsa and maybe a slice of cheddar cheese.

I think it was 7 11 where they had these huge red hot beef burritos. Because of the spice in the meat mixture they were actually pretty tasty. Would buy again.

(Awaits the frozen burrito snobs in 3,2,1)

Worst: If you want incredibly tasteless Mexican-themed food products try Evol. Evol is designed for those who hate spices and any discernible flavor. But it's organic and non-GMO so perhaps you can taste their smugness.

Tina's usually sells for .39 here and when on sale, 3/1.00.
They are the worst of all frozen burritos that I have tasted.

Amy's are usually decent (they're vegetarian though). Stores try to sell them for 2.99 each but you can buy a case at Costco for 9.99 for eight.

I once bought a case of PJ's from costco when Amy's was OOS.
Horrible trash. As bad as Tina's. I even wrote to the company about what a bad experience I had and gave them the lot number and everything.

They just ignored me.

Evol is OK, but don't make the mistake of buying the gluten-free ones. They were hard as a rock. If you have a sprouts grocery store around you, they carry Amy's, Red's, Evol and a couple others to try.

El Monterrey Chicken Rice and Bean, best frozen Mexican food I've had. Discovered them just a few days ago.

Don Miguel? LOL. Seems frozen burritos and high end tequilas have a lot in common when it comes to marketing.

I think the best frozen burritos that I've had have all come from convenience stores and gas stations. I'm not sure I could name a single brand, though. Don't recall ever having one from a 7-Eleven that was any good.

Yeah...back in the day man, 7-Eleven & Circle-K food was the BOMB! I tried a 7-11 burrito the other day & it was almost as flavorless as Chipotle's food :(

I only had Don Miguel chicken, cheese, and bean burrito from Costco. But it's non-frozen. I thought it was pretty good.

I usually make my own... Tina's are carried in my local grocery and I'll eat them 1-2 times a year. They are serviceable.

I get their chimichangas, which look exactly like their burritos. I dress them up with lettuce, picante sauce, sour cream, and shredded cheddar. They're tasty for a quick lunch.

Hmm, so they tasted like a Chipotle burrito?

I find these comments funny because chipotle is the one place where you basically make the burrito yourself. If it's coming out flavorless, maybe you are asking for the wrong toppings and/or meat?

It's like my brother gets a burrito from chipotle with rice and cheese, no salsa no veggies nothing else. Of course it's bland and plain, but that is what he wants.

With 4 different salsas on the assembly line, plus other flavors available in bottles, if your chipotle burrito is bland you can only blame yourself.

People buy frozen burritos for two reasons, convenience and cost in that order. Arguing about flavor is an exercise in self delusion.

I've been to several locations (my coworkers love Chipotle). I like food where the flavor speaks for itself & even when I load up the burritos with everything (beef or chicken), it's been pretty bland, at least at the CT stores. The sauce helps, but it's like the difference between say Five Guys & BurgerFi...Five Guys' patties are completely flavorless & need the bun/cheese/toppings to make up for it, whereas you can order a greenstyle (lettuce wrap) from BurgerFi & the beef is fantastic.

That's just been my experience so far though. I like Mo's better than Chipotle, and I like Hothead Burrito most of all (new in my area, yum!).

Eh, back in the day they were a legitimate meal option. Quality has gone downhill since the 90's tho. I still sample them from time to time, but mostly go the DIY route now (make a bunch & freeze 'em, especially breakfast burritos).

With salsa El Monterey's are good convenience food. Not the best for sure, but for the price pretty hard to beat. Haven't really had much experience with other frozen brands, mainly because they are all 4x the price in these parts.

Seriously, they are so easy to make, just make your own and freeze them.

Two tips:

1. Spam is a great filling for breakfast burritos. If you're not into Spam, you should check it out - it's really good! Only six ingredients. I always thought it was a novelty food & refused to touch it until one of my friends went to Hawaii & came back and convinced me to try a poke bowl with eggs, rice, and Spam in it.

2. Chorizo is the secret ingredient to super-tasty burritos, especially breakfast burritos. It has that "zing" that is missing when you make DIY breakfast burritos without it. Took me a looooooong time to figure this out!
