I want to change my window frame, they are all rotten and are very much soft right now. These rotten woods gets wet quickly and there is only a minimal insulation right now. I prefer real wood over vinyl, I was thinking to do it myself. Window dimensions in inches 24 x 48 and 1.5 inches frame . Suggest me the right kind of wood which could last minimum for a decade.

You could use red wood. but the species is less important than keeping it painted and caulked well. Douglass fir is also a good choice.

What about the composite material (Aluminium and Wood ) ? Will they give a better look than a real wood ?

i would buy a quality vinyl or aluminum clad wood window.

do you have a metal brake? if you do, i would build an aluminum clad wood frame.

I would not use trex/pvc/any other plastic wood that is available at home centers, these materials are not meant for this task. generally do not hold fasteners well and do not look very good. (imho)

grandfather and father were in the window/door/trim business for about 50 years. We aluminum clad our wood exterior door frames.

To be clear, the existing windows are wood frame with a wood sash, and it's the sash that is rotten, not the frame? This will mean the difference between using a vinyl window or a Tilt pac, and replacing the entire window.

was that a question greenman? or do you know the OP?

if its just the sash, just replace the sash if you want to keep the weights and such, if not put in tilt packs and insulate the void space where the weights were. the new pack will insulate better than the old sash.

It was a question. I can't give him any advice because I don't know exactly what the problem is. I don't want to recommend a tilt pac if the entire frame is rotted out.

It's the sash that is rotten.

Then it becomes an easy question. You can have new wood sash made, use a vinyl replacement, or one of the tilt pac style replacements. Your budget will determine which way you go. You can decide what wood is used if it's a custom made sash, but otherwise you get what's provided by the manufacturer. Anything with a clad exterior will last longer than wood. Every option but vinyl is a major pain to paint.
