Hi,

My new apartment has reinforced concrete walls and my router is struggling to penetrate all corners of it. It's only a small 2 bedroom apartment, but because the router can only be placed at one end, the signal does not reach the other end with the Xbox 360 etc.

I bought an ASUS RT-N16 (flashed with TomatoUSB) which I assumed would have great range, but unfortunately it seems to struggle. What model can I replace it with that could produce better reception for the Xbox 360 particularly?

Should I buy an RT-N66U, or should I buy some 9dbi antennas? (Since it's a single level apartment, I guess higher dbi isn't a bad thing??)

Any help appreciated!

Thanks for the reply MontyAC. I tried a Netcomm Powerline adapter (NP205) but one shorted out after running for about 5 minutes at 3mbps. I suspect it is an internal wiring issue with the apartment, which had severe water damage in the past year before I started renting. I got my agent to get a tech out to inspect the internal wiring and he insisted it was fine, but powerline adapters definitely won't work.

Best thing to do would be to try a different location. I would also try running g instead of N or the other way around depending what you have now. But if it's a small apartment just run cable .
