Anybody know of any wireless routers that have a rather high range? I would like to be able to walk around with my laptop around my dorm and be able to get a signal.

Unless somebody has experienced with most of the wireless routers out there, then their answers will be practically useless to you. Even though i've handled dozens of different types of routers, i never really tested their range limitation. Best advice i can give you, is to read reviews.. here's a decent site (and been around for ages) that you should look at: http://www.practicallynetworked.com/ (google and amazon.com are places for reviews as well).

Personally if i was to give my own opinion, i would say DLink might be one of the better brands out there when it comes to range and quality. Some here may say SMC, since the Hotdeals section often comes up with SMC deals so more people will have SMC, and i myself own SMC and has it worked flawlessly, i know at my old company one of our most returned and problematic routers were SMCs (not as much as Linksys)... and this is taking into consideration popularity (of course the more people that own a product, just by sheer statistical fact, more people are going to have problems).

So my advice, read up on some reviews (especially comparison reviews)... and if you can, shop at a store that has a good return policy and has several different brands/models, and try them out yourselves.

Absolutely right. I actually tried the range of many Entry Level and under the same envioroment and physical settings they are all give and take feet one from the other.

You can improve the range by knowing how to position correctly the Unit and at times (if it removable) fit the unit with a better Antennae. Otherwise the D-Link /Netgear SuperG or a Hack Linksys Speed Booster would give the best yield.

P.S. The few hundred $$$ Cisco Airnet with a 100mW radio will do the best.
