Best Wireless PCI Card

I am looking to build a new computer in my home, and don't want to buy 15-20 meters of ethernet cable, so I was looking at the wireless ption.

The router we currently was sent by our ISP, and I don't know if another modem/router would be incompatible or whether anything could work. The router we currently have is a SpeedStream 6500 Series Router

As for the card, I am looking for a PCI wireless card, I have found some on several websites, however I do not know how reliable and fast they are, and how much of a difference there is between different manufacturers.

I also do not know whether a D-Link modem works better with a D-Link card or if it would work just as good with a ASUS card.

Thank you

No wireless will be as cheap, secure, reliable, trouble-free and fast as wired. It's OK to go wireless if you really can't or don't want to run wire, and can live with less speed and reliability, but if running wire is a real option, then it's the way to go.

The thing is where the modem is, and where the computer will be are in two totally different places, and running a cable from the router to the computer will be a really pain, and I'm not sure how much 20 meters of ethernet cable would cost, if it's anywhere around $30-40, then a wireless card will be just as expensive/cheaper

You can get those lengths for $10 + shipping. I understand cabling difficulty, it's a valid point, but messing around with wireless drivers and connection issues can also be painful. It's your decision. I'm just letting you know that wired is better if you can wing it.

It seems that you reside in Australia, I am not familiar with the market there, but in the USA 50 feet cable cost only $7.

The card that I linked to above is as inexpensive as it get. If due to enviromental factors it would not provide the features that you need you would have to buy much more expensive Wireless hardware, and even then it might not meet your Gaming needs.

However if gaming is so important you can try to hire a professional Cable Layer that would install a nice cable in a way that would not interfere with the environment.

Otherwise you are asking to convert a Mini Cooper to a Bulldozer.
