Best wireless home networking choice?

Hey folks.

I need to link up the home network wirelessly. 54g preferred. I've had some decent experiences with Netgear, but I'm open to try new companies like Linksys or D-Link. Anyone have any opinions, suggestions, or experiences they'd like to share?

Thanks,
David

My Linksys BEFW11S4 (802.11b) has been very good to me, and my Linksys WUSB11 (also 802.11b) hasn't given me much trouble.
Admittedly I haven't used tech support, so calling India isn't an issue for me.

Cut a deck of cards. Rock, Paper, Scissor. However you want to choose via the luck of the draw. Point is, there is not a major difference in any of those you've listed. Check and see what features you like and bounce that against the pricepoint your looking at.

HAHAHAHA

its true there all the same.

if its not needed asap it may be worth it waiting for 802.11n hardware, few months away last I heard but i could be wrong.

but as far as brand? go look at your local sale paper, find the cheapest and buy it. I see you are in cali...but i dunno if you have a microcenter out there, if you do goto their bargain bin. I love buying 802.11g 4 port routers for $30 🙂 always ask the sales associates if they can come down on the price any, they get commission on whatever they mark like that so they will do it if they think it'll give em the sale...

I bought a D-Link wireless router (DI-624) and wireless PCI adapter (DWL-G520) earlier this month. I got it setup within a few minutes out of the box. I did call tech support for some minor issues but I have no problems or complaints with the products I have. Tech support is very helpful and knowledgeable. They even send you an email after you hang up with them stating the issue you called them about and the resolution.

I've had good tech support from D-Link for my DI-704p ethernet router. Unfortunately it turned out that it doesn't support my printer (HP4M) in terms of having the printer set up as a network printer, but that's another story. As a basic ethernet router, it seems to work just fine, though.

Question 1: If and when I set up a wireless network, can I still use my ethernet connection between PC's for those big transfers (backups)?

Question 2: Will my Internet experience suffer from using the wireless network?

Yes u can use the wired portion and the wireless portion. there will be no problem transfering files.

Question 2: Will my Internet experience suffer from using the wireless network?

No, becuase ur internet comes at 1 to 5mbps at most and, the Basic wireless is at 11MBps (and up to 108 now.), so you should not have any problems. the only problem you might have with wireless is environment, (plays a big roll)
