My four-year-old WRT54G died this morning and I hear the v5 is complete garbage, so I am going to pass on Linksys this round (unless the WRT54GS is as good as I heard).

What's the best router out right now. I have no clue.

I just got the WRT54GX4 with SRX400. And it is outstanding. A breeze to setup. Haven't had any problems with it to date.

Good luck!

Few Options.

If you would like to plunge into PreN MIMO (and I would not suggest it unless You have a very good reason), Go with the Linksys SRX.

If you would like to stay with 802.11g, get the Buffalo Tech. High Power. Very stable and close to MIMO performance.

If you need the Extra Hacking of the WRT try to find a WRT54g v4, and ?Flash?.

Otherwise, get the most inexpensive unit that you can find in the Brand name section of your favorite mega Store.

Yeah. I'm looking for a WRT54g v4 but no luck so far. The WRT54GS still runs Linux and has open source firmware, but I don't think there are any alternate firmwares yet. Might just get it to see what happens.

Some places still stock the v4. However if you'd really like the Linux version and want to guarantee that it is the router, you can get the WRT54GL version of the router.
