Best Wireless Company?

Let me know if there any that need to be added. I currently have US Cellular and I like them, but since I moved up to college I am out of their coverage area. This is based on overall satisfaction not one particular aspect.

Thanks for participating,
Stu

There is no best:

T-Mobile: Gives away minutes like they're going out of style. Least/worst coverage of any major carrier.
Sprint: Best phones and options, second-best minute buckets. Largest DIGITAL coverage of anyone.
AT&T/Cingular: They'll be the same company soon, and they almost are now. Coverage is pretty good, but not so much better than Sprint or T-Mobile that it would be a factor.
Verizon: Best/largest TOTAL (analog + digital) network, worst prices by far.

I'm currently with Sprint, and the only drawback is that I don't have coverage in some areas that I'd like to have it, but I know that and expect it, so it's not that big of a deal. For $5 a month, I can use my phone anywhere I can get a signal (ie. from any wireless carrier) and I don't have to pay roaming, but again, it's not worth it for me. I get great signal in my apartment and everywhere I travel. Plus, I use their web access constantly, so I can't go without that.

I have Verizon, now, because they are the only one I get great coverage from on my area. They are, however, overprice and underfeatured.

i dont see what is so bad about the prices of verizon. i have verizon and it rocks, and I think for $40/mo for 400 anytime minutes and free nights and weekends, that is one hell of a deal. since i'm at work from 9- 5:30, people can call me on my work number if they need to get a hold of me, which pretty much leaves about 3 hours/day that i may be using my minutes up, and not to mention I go to the gym about 3/5 days of the work week. i even have another phone on this plan, my gf, for $20 extra a month. So we pay $60/mo for the 2 phones, sharing 400 anytime minutes and both having free weekends and nights, not to mention that the whole "IN" thing is great, especially since probably 75% of my friends have verizon.

EDIT: and as far as the features lacking in verizon, could someone elaborate on that? cause my cell phone does what a cell is supposed to do ... be able to talk to people wherever/whenever I want with reliable service. and it does other stupid stuff too, like go on the web and take pictures.

I got so tired of Sprint that I went w/ T-Mobile. My service is infinitely better with T-Mobile. With Sprint, I always had the question, "I wonder if I have service?" when I opened the phone. I got tired of it.

I <3 Verizon

They don't have the greatest phones, but then again, most people don't need a phone that can launch nukes 😉 I've never really considered them to be overpriced either.

I just got my first phone last week and went with tmobile. So far so good, no troubles, a lot of neat features wiht the whole TZones thing. Just gotta wait for my first bill now 😛

In my opinion, anything but Sprint. At one time I had very little credit and I had to get Sprint due to their low low credit requirements. I always had little to no signal. ATT, Cingular, Tmobile, all have been not a problem for me.

Me too. I have 600 min, and FREE Fri, Sat, and Sun for $39.99. They also offer 1000 min anytime for $39. I haven't had any coverage problems. Why people pay $49 for 300 min is beyond me.

I currently have T-Mobile and don't plan on switching ever again. I previously had Cingular and Sprint, the latter being the worst of all.

I have the T610 phone with international roaming. I've been to both Germany and Greece with it and people could simply dial my number as they normally would and it would ring me over there. Coverage there is even better than here! On a remote paradise beach on a Greek island? No problem! Visiting the Eagle's Nest atop a 6017-feet-tall mountain in the Alps? No Problem!

I prefer Sprint. I just switched our company over to Sprint phones also. I travel all over the US for work and have never had problems with Sprint. Sometimes out in rural areas it gets bad, but if you have free roaming then you will roam to verizon's network at no charge.

You get what you pay for. I have Verizon and I never have to worry about dropped calls or poor signal strength.

In terms of coverage, it's Verizon, and it's not even close.
not really. now that cingular and att have merged (in terms of coverage, still not all worked out legally though), they have the biggest network (gsm coverage and # of customers). they also don't charge for roaming on other networks, so you can be on tmobile, cingular, etc.

i used to hate att (and i still do, for the most part), but their coverage now is amazing. i get a signal EVERYWHERE.

=|

i had ATT and it didnt work in my house but it worked in everyone elses house bout a quarter mile away.

switched to verizon, works everywhere.......except my girlfriends neighborhood. Over there ATT works amazing.

Any idea on how to fix that? And why do they bother with the analog signal, its always static and calls never even dial.

For cost per minute, Verizon doesn't come close to Cingular, ATT, or T-Mobile. I think its like 25-30% more per minute. As far as features go, it would be nice if Verizon offered something like rollover, to compensate for their higer cost-per-minute.

Some real advanteages of Verizon, is they allow you to use your own mobile internet connection. I am currently connecting through my home cable line to access the internet on my phone. Also, their online billing site is much more comprehensive and reliable than Cingular's.

I've had Sprint for almost 4 years and it has consistently been reliable. The only times I lose signal are in the cell phone "vortexes" where no carrier has a signal (my friends have Verizon, Nextel, AT&T and Cingular). Maybe the users who have problems with Sprint have had lousy phones? Can't go wrong with Sanyo. 🙂

From my experience, I'll compare the 4: Verizon, Cingular, T-Mobile, and Sprint

Verizon Wireless
Advantage: Reception. No other service can claim better coverage in most areas. Free WAP access.
Disadvantage: Phone selection and expensive plans. 2 cents per text messages received (if you don't have it as part of your plan). CDMA.

Cingular/AT&T
Advantage: Large phone selection. Cheap phone plans. GSM.
Disadvantage: Dropped phone calls and signal cuts in and out.

T-Mobile
Pretty much the same as Cingular except they tend to give more minutes.

Sprint
Terrible reception in some areas, great in other areas. Free WAP access. Does not offer the best phone plans but they're certainly cheaper than Verizon. Large phone selection. I've had mix reviews from Sprint subscribers with most of them being bad.

Hey, not trying to thread jack but you've been to the Eagle's Nest? Is it commercialzed now? Is it a guided tour? Do you have access to the whole place or are some parts closed off?

As for the OP I hope Cingular does me justice. I'm starting with them tonight. I'm getting rid of my old carrier which is a regional company called Cellular South.

i wouldn't count GSM as an advantage and CDMA as a liability, unless you're some sort of phone whore or need a 'world phone.' CDMA takes up less spectrum space, so it is easier for them to add capacity and services (its the reason why sprint was about to go 3g before anyone else)

i've been pissing off the verizon customer service people lately. i call once a week to check my text message count since its not available on the website. I figure i'll just do this till they get the hint.

I still dont get how they can charge you for incoming text messages.....its not like you can decline delivery. Plus charging you for a service that you can't track yourself is a hassle.

Almost ranted.......but i caught myself.

Good day.

I'm currently a TMobile customer and had Sprint before that. Before I switched to Sprint, I was on Verizon. They had the most towers and the best reception when I was in the middle of no where. I think it was because they obtained GTE Wireless and some other companies. If I get a new phone next year, it will be on Verizon.
